Working for Petco.......

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
so, according to petco, constumer satisfaction only applies if they are satisfied with the $?

personally i do shop at petco but not for live animals, just supplies, and im lucky to say that the people at my petco store are more knowledgeable, and im also lucky to say they dont mind telling me what is best for the tank/fish.

but nice going telling that guy off! lol!

Haha I'm way to lazy to read all 8 pages but I wouldn't even buy animals from PetCo. I worked there for 8 months and I knew more about the animals the the manager in charge of the animals. The bare minimum was done for all the animals and no more. At one point there was about 8 oscars about 2" I think 6 cons about 2" and a few jacks about 2" all in the same tank and not temporarily they were in there forever. Petco sucks I hated that place they don't care about animals nor do they know how to care for them.

David.

Ps sorry about any typos using my phone bcus Internet is dead right now...

Ya a person at petsmart was all like you can house two oscars and a pleco in a 25 gal. Back story as an F.y.I I had a pleco and when my African Dwarf clawed frog died I went to get a fish with my lil cousin he was quick to ask the petsmart person about oscars though i my self knew better insted I got some ghost shrimp :3

Why would you argue with someone that has less experience than you? Is the same thing as asking for a retardad to be a normal person.
If the Local Store has a policy you should follow, or use your creativity to turn things over without hurting your co-workers feelings...
Your opinion is right, but your attitude was wrong.. If your boss yells at you then you should ask him politily not to and explain him why you acted like that. You may even make him start to think that his policy was wrong.
18-28 Yold people think they have reached their maturity and often think they know all and are the knowledge knights that you could easily start a fight with these just by arguying.

Sometimes we need patience with people and you just have lost your job because you didnt.

Fish Stores will mostly sell any fish in exchange for money. I know very experienced Fishkeepers with Fish Stores that have the knowledge but dont pass along to their costumers because they need to sell the medicines and more fish that they have in the store, and if they teach all at the beggining u will buy the equipment, fish and have those for 15 years without returning to the store. Just to buy fish food.

Is sad but is true.

dude, contiue doing what you are doing, get paid and if they call u to the office again calmly tell them that u are far more educated than they are and to suck your fat sack, **** santa tell them where to put it

I also agree you did the right thing. However, I think your temperament could've been better towards your boss. Because if you weren't so angry and just told him why you did what you did, then maybe he would of understood and learned from it?

It seems to me the policy there was to never tell the customers the truth and to say things like "Yes, you can house a salvini cichlid with an angelfish" (which is very wrong). It also seems like they always want their employees to always tell the customers they can house any fish with any other fish (unless maybe its a piranha, because most people know they're aggressive), just so they can make money. But, it eventually does not make them more money because customers soon find out that all the fish they're buying are not compatible as they've been told are compatible and what they are told is wrong and get very angry and stop shopping at that particular store. & then they tell their friends and family to not shop there either because of their bad experience(s). So either way, if you tell them the truth or not, the customer can be dissatisfied (for instance, in your case...you told the truth and still had some dissatisfied customers and your boss wasn't happy). But, your better off telling them the truth then something that isn't true, because soon the customer will find out you do know what you're talking about when it comes to fish and you just want what is best for that fish.

Hope what I said makes some sense to you, lol

Hey all - new here but used to work in a small lfs chain that was eventually swallowed up by Petco.

Maybe it's because I'm getting old, but none of what I see in the lfs's surprises me anymore. It's still sad and infuriating, sure, but not surprising. It goes far beyond the lfs unfortunately.

Everyone thinks they are smart - everyone. Nobody likes to be told they are stupid (even the same people who make fun of 'nerds' for being too smart, go figure. Really, try telling a bully he's dumb and see how upset he gets... then ask why he was beating someone up for being smart and watch his head explode). People have a sense of entitlement, and superiority, so if they come into a pet shop wanting something to put in their house to look pretty, they aren't going to like it when they are told they can't do it- even if there's a perfectly sound reason. And when they do hear something they don't like, they use it to get something out of you (like in the store when they call the manager - they'd ideally like free stuff, but seeing you get fired would also make them feel much better about themselves).

The fact is, many people don't consider fish living creatures to be respected. Instead they are pretty ornaments to decorate their house (or worse, maybe just something to buy so their kids will shut up). Actually many don't even consider their cats/dogs as being on the same level as them, so fish are not worth being respected. The goldfish/beta in the bowl has done more to harm the fish hobby than anything I'd say, but it sells product, and like it or not, none of us would be in the store working if we weren't being paid.

But as I said it goes past just pets - look how many people get married and then cheat or get divorced... sure many are unavoidable and/or unfortunate, but SO MANY break up because of bad or no planning, or a sense of entitlement/selfishness.

It's a pattern I see in so many aspects of life - and it is sad. Glad there's places like this where I can vent to peeps who break this mold!

FIrst official post a mini-rant. haha sweeet. Can you tell I've spent most of my time here so far in threads like this!?

I agree with Scottie a 100% and he said it better than I could :D
