Worst tank accident?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well this is merely minor but. I was doing a water change on my 2g betta tank, i put too much water in and it just kept over flowing from the top seems for at least 5 minutes. Haven't really had any other bad ones though.

For me it's a toss up between my 60 gallon sump bursting during a water change on my 320g tank (where's the shop vac?) or when the fan in my stand for the 200g salt water tank decided to catch on fire. Luckily the stand only got scorched and didn't ignite. I guess salt water spray must of gotten onto the fan and it shorted out. The GFI didn't trip either. Hm.

i have two really bad ones...my first one was on my first 29gal tank i had a hob skimmer that i was working 14 hr days all weekend and wasnt paying attention to the cup...and needless 2 say it overflowed and slowly ran into an outlet causing the outlet to melt and at 5 oclock in the morning caused the building i lived in to evacuate because of a fire...lol and the second one was i moved about 600 dollers worth of corals took they to my lfs and had them box it up with me...and went to ups and they called me like 2 hours later saying my box is leaking and i went there and opened the box and the foam box that the corals where tripled bag in was cracked apart and there was peanuts in there too and they mishandled the box and killed everything...fun times

Had a return line from my sump come loose in the middle of the night and pump 40 gallons in the floor

I'm probably about to have my worst accident ever if I don't move my tank asap. It's located upstairs in a room on the opposite side of the wall from the laundry room. When the washer goes into the spin cycle the floor shakes so badly that the surface of the water gets a strange "standing wave" type of pattern, the light fixture and cover rattle, and I could probably make a mixed drink in the HOB filter. Eventually this thing will bust a seal if I don't move it. Funny thing is, the fish don't really seem to care much.

Fortunately it's only a 26g bowfront, so I don't think it is under the same stresses and forces as something 2x-3x bigger etc. I'll be sure to report back if disaster strikes before I can move it.

I never had any serious problems yet, but when I was little my dad had a 75 gallon saltwater reef tank that he invested around 2k in and we had an ice storm and it knocked out the power killing all the rocks and fish.

My feeder fish that I won at the fair 3 years before that was still alive and healthy.

I still remind him of the superiority of freshwater fish quite often :evil_lol:

Had a return hose off a canister filter disconnect. It fell on the floor draining all but 4" of my 75 into the heating duct. Destroyed the furance. But the 100yr hardwood floors I just refinished were undamaged and didn't lose any fish. I think the furance was cheaper than redoing floors would have been.

broke a 300galllon all glass tank trying to move it in the basement.. ..... broke a panel,, its now a shelving unit in my garage..

i'll try and rebuild it one day..
