Worst tank accident?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it was midnight and i was doing a water change with two five gallon buckets one at a time and i got distracted. half an hour later there was two inches of water in my kitchen and my wife had to clean it up cause i had to get ready for watch. she was sooo pissed lol

this isn't all that bad but we haven't had any tank malfunctions or problems (yet), but one night a small rainbow shark jumped out a tiny hole in the back of the lid and the cat ended up eating it, dissgusting, but at least i didnt have to clean up the body i guess lol

i was out of town helping my stepdad at the hospital and left my salt tank for two weeks. i figured my ma could handle it. i came back to a cloudy red-brown tank that had one fish survive.... my scopas tang who a few days later commited suicide by flying gracefully at an electrical socket

Last week I used the wrong milk jug to top off my Fahaka tank. Used the one that had been sitting on the counter for 3-4 days with rotten milk in the bottom. 50% water change and the water is better

My auto top off float valve got stuck open and overflowed my sump for about 7 hours until we got home. Had to take down the tank and move the stand and pull up the carpet to dry it all. Could have been worse, the first thing I did when I realized the carpet was wet was open up the door on the stand and reach into the 3 inches of water and turn off the power strip. This just happened a few days ago. The tank is still empty and the fish are in another tank while I re-design my sump and mount my power strip on the side of the stand instead of laying it next to the sump like an idiot.

I just got an fx5 and I had gotten really excited. I set the whole thing up, and then I forgot to really tighten the 8 caps (for those fx5 users). Well, water sprayed everywhere. I stopped it pretty quickly.Too late, we had to take down the 180 gallon aquarium full of water and sand and rocks and wood because water got under the stand. Worst day ever.

its not fish related but yah...i had a 75g glass tank setup for my male hypo X pastel bearded dragon & one day a friend offered a real pretty penny for him for bd breeding project so i said ill give him the setup too since hes a friend. so i take the bd out and let have a swim & bath in the tub while i went back out to unplug the setup and help the friend load it into his van until out of no where the basking bulb which was just turned off blew up on me outta no where and sent a good amount of burning hot glass at my friend & i... so unintentionally we dropped the 75g glass tank... then all hell broke loose... 12 oz of water spilled, 120 lb of herp vita sand exploded like in a war zone when a grenade blows up and made a huge mess on the carpet, about 5 XL crickets got loose in the house & etc... it wasnt a pretty picture... thank god the bd was taking a dip in the tub...whew! lesson learned wait till everything cools... lol

I had a 265 gallonglass tank that had the back blow out. On retrospect, I think a lot of it had to do with a slab of slate leaning against the glass that I had gotten at a Home and Garden Center that was too heavy. On the bright side, I was able to save most of my fish because I had other tanks running. After a battle I was also eventually compensated for the value of the equipment and some of the damage to our floors. Those carpets needed to be torn up anyway:) When it happened my girlfriend and I were watching TV and it sounded like somebody fired a shotgun through our front window. Moral of the story-don't prop heavy decorations against the side of your tank, no matter how thick and durable the glass may seem:).

Well, I found out the hard way tanks and hammers don't mix.. was finishing rearranging my living room, hanging up pictures and stuff. My dog came rushing through & bumped into me, I lost my balance and guess where the hammer landed? Yup, right into the side of a 125 gallon fish tank - large v shaped crack appeared and I began frantically draining water from the tank before I had a major flood. Had just set this one up and it didn't have any fish in it yet - so that was good at least. Moral, kick your dogs outside when you're working around the tanks!

Wow all of these posts are awesome! I am terrified to set up m,y 250 tank now lol. My story isn't nearly as good as most of these are but here I go!
about 6 months ago I was taking a shower and as i stop out I noticed all the dogs and cats are locked in my room with my husband sitting on the bed I asked him why everyone was in the room he replies, I am bug boming the house :WTF:. I flip out because I know you are supposed to even be in the house when you set those off . you are supposed to cover tanks and remove bids from that kinda environment... needless to say after me chewing my hubbys arse for about oh, 20 hours. I lost my entire tank because that is what he set the bug bomb on. and i lost 3 of 4 birds. *sighs*
