Would a 6x4x2 tank work for retics?

Hey poopsmart, where are you getting your acrylic from? What thickness? What bonding agent?
I have a pair of retics 7.75 inch disk male, 6.75 inch disk female that I would like to breed if I end up keeping them. (they are in the classifieds for trade or sale)

Of course it would work. I hope you are able to keep your retics alive. Its pretty rare to see adult retic!

Personally Id go with motoros as they are hardier and you could have a pair in there for a long time.

Onion, Im FAR from an expert....I just spend too much time reading I guess. Sadly I only have around 18months under my belt of keeping rays at home...That is soon going to change! :D

I actually find retics to be a good starter ray. I think they are great for a beginer if they are healthy. But sadly most wholesalers dont take care of them as well as they should. I personaly have owned my retics for a year and a half and am hoping to breed them in the near future.

I do agree completly that rays are very hardy after being in their surounds for a while. About 3 weeks ago my sump broke and my tank overflooded during the night. The rays were still alive and healthy when i woke up to a sopping wet basment. I have no clue how long they had no filter but it could have been anywere between 1-12 hours bec, i didnt notice it until about noon when i came home for lunch (from school). Luckily my grandma noticed that something was wrong with the filter and put 3 air stones in the tank at about 10 oclock.

Yeah.. lots of gas exchange at the surface. Especially since alot of people keep rays at such high temps, the water doesn't hold as much 02.

Believe it or not, my rays went without a filter or air for 6 hours while I was at work.. The fish room froze, and I did everything I can before having to move the rays into a 100g tank. I had the 180g covered with blankets, heaters from extension cords, and turned off everything but the return pump.. The tank got down to about 65 degrees over a period of 1 night, so I moved them.. No stress, no losses.. no issues. Rays are pretty darn tough once acclimated, I just think they are all half-dead when in LFS.

BTW, My rays came from Cichlids exchange.. they are nice rays at a good price (not charging more than $50 a ray, right?.. CichlidEx is selling em for about $24/ea shhhh) but they did have internal parasites, and I did have to treat them .. my LFS treated em once, and so did I.. the smallest one with the snubbed tail sure doesn't seem to keep up with the other 2 that have been in captivity longer and received extra doses of meds.

Hope that helps..

You must be from the NW?
heres the quote lol
