would a ghost knife fit ...

You're going to love the BGK. Everyone here who has gotten one enjoys them very much and usually ends up being one of their favorite fish;)

i know i am going to love them! i had two brown centipede knife fish that died. i was at the lfs ( which is really good ) with my list of exotic fishes. originally i wanted to do a labyrinth tank with oddball air breathers. when i asked for the ctenopomas- they had them. the manager was so impressed that i knew the fish and attempted the latin that he could not stop smiling...and gave me two full sized ctenopoma and two brown knifes for 30 bucks.he said they had been there for months and no one bought them, not realizing how different they were. all four fishies were hilarious, the ctenopomas sly and sneaky, google eyed, like escaped mental patients.
the knifefsh would delight us every morning with thier attempts at camoflauge.we would all start the day with chuckles over thier sometimes really good, and sometimes ridiculous "hiding".one favorite was to sleep upside down in a patch of swords pretending to be a leaf.my husband, who is a retired military officer, loved this so much! he would puff out his chest and say 'very good, little fish, very good"
sadly, one got sucked into the power filter and died.the next day,the other was dead too. the manager at the fish store told us they prefer to be with each other, and thats why the other knife just gave up when his buddy was gone.my husband said he did not want anymore fish- caause none could compare to them.if the bgk is like them,we will probably dote on them like they were children!

the only problem i see here is them two fighting, they are territorial and have electrical fields surrounding their body in the water. The other electrical fish feel this (other bgk in ur case) and they fight. In my aquarium my bkg is fighting the pleco :(

i have seen the bgk fight in pet stores when there are a bunch of small ones in a tank...the brown centipede knives did not fight at all, actually seeming to love each other- one was weaker than the other and the stronger would gently nudge the weaker up and about as soon as evening came-or food was offered. so i guess it is different for the two types?

more tanks? lol! remember i have the 75 gallon with nothing cool in it but a raggedy baby oscar and a nasty angelfish. i also have a twenty gallon with a crayfish...he is a jerk, too.

The Black Ghost Knife Fish might be better off in the 75 gallon. In the 55, you can keep the puffers and add some monoes and archer fish. You may try a scat, but they get big and may require the 75 if you want to put tankmates with it. You can add with the BGK a senegal bichir, angelfish, a trio of silver dollars and maybe a red-tail shark. That group would fit in the 55 and the puffers in the 75.

okay, lemme see...you say leave the puffers in the (55) with the ctenopomas, kubotai loaches, hillstream loaches and the gold gourami, right?
then get the bgk,add my angels,my black skirts,a bichir, silver dollars and a red tail shark (75)?

No, you should transfer all the fish over to the 75, convert the 55 to a brackish and don't buy anymore fish other than a bgk and some archers or monos fot the 55 brackish.

gotcha.good advice. don't put the puffers in with the brackish?

Puffers are brackish.

I tried to give several options and it was all jumbled. lol

Option 1:

55: 1 Black Ghost Knifefish, Angelfish, 3 Silver Dollars, Senegal Bichir

75: Puffers, Monos, archerfish, a shoal of tigerbars and maybe a scat, but beware that the scat gets dinner plate size.

Option 2:

Flip the above options tanking and make the 55 brackish. In this case, I would definately leave out the scat. Also, I don't know if the oscar and the angel will get along when the oscar gets bigger. It could harass the angel to death. If you swap the above, you might try to get 3 angelfish each with a different color with the silver dollars, senegal bichir, red-tail shark (they are BEAUTIFUL when they are full grown at 6-7 inches) and the knifefish. If you want to keep the oscar, I would get rid of the angelfish and may leave out the shark.
