Curious on what you guys feel a big ol flawless Tanzanian Tigerfish would be worth. Say 12-15"IMG_0552 (1).JPG

If you find a right person wanted the fish really bad you can get a good price for it, I sold my 15" GAFT for $750 and that person was begged me to sell him. It's all about right time, right person and you might get a jackpot :)

Thank you guys for the input!!! Love hearing other's opinions. I'm not looking for a jackpot by any means, just trying to figure out IF I'm out of my mind by thinking it's worth a deal more then a few hundred bucks. Just looking at the option of trading one bucket fish for another......

Personally, I think Gatf are easily attainable through LFSs, I don't think it's even close to a fair comparison. I have a decent sized Gatf and I'm not sure I would value it at half the price, but that's just me and the preference to own the minority instead of the majority. I mean how many big Gatf do you see on the boards? How many Tanzies have we seen this size or bigger?

Hmm, I say about 300 to 350. I've had opportunities to buy similar but smaller for prices in the 200 mark. I think the guy who made 750 lucked out as I've never seen one priced that high. Curious to see more opinions.

You say you haven't heard of ATF selling for $750+. What did "Max" sell for? Rumor I heard was 4 digits. ;) Your friend bought him, I'd guess you could find out if you wanted.

I thought you said you've never seen a big Tanzy? There's a reason why...... It's cause nobody has one.

You should link me to the sales of these bigger Tanzies for a few hundy, I'll gladly buy them......... Always wanted a group, just haven't been able to make that happen. Why? Cause they are so friggin hard to find, obtain and keep alive.

Last time I saw a non Vatf/Gatf this size was reedmaster16s Brevis which was 12" and it started at like 750 then sold for 400 cash.

I was confused on the fish. I have owned a small one that got eatin by a much larger fish in my tank. I paid, if I recall correctly, 150 for a small one about 6 inches. Like I noted, "I" personally have not seen one sell for 750. You note you have seen one sell for 400 cash, more in line with the 350 I noted above.

Also, as I noted, I have had a few other opportunities to buy smaller ones at the 200 mark, but again yours is twice the size, hence twice the value?

I sold Mad Max for $1000. He was a goliath though, and one of the 'first' ones to be grown to that size after we as a community started to know what we were doing with these fish. He was something of a celebrity on this site.

That being said, I think that anyone who has ANY atf over 12" has accomplished something very, very special. I happen to know that this TATF that Alan is selling is about three years old and absolutely flawless. It is a special fish, and worthy of a four figure price tag. That fish was from the second-ever confirmed import of TATF. It has history to it and is a special fish.

Yes, from time to time, larger 8-12" ATF show up, but mostly FATF or VATF. For some reason, I never see ATF for sale that are over 12". I suppose that is because either the owners keep them or they die.

Regardless, if Al was to sell this fish, I'd hope that he'd ask a ridiculous price and wait for the RIGHT owner to show up. IMO, the type of person who could properly take care of this fish wouldn't balk at a $1000 price tag for it. Part of the reason I asked so much money for Max was because I didn't want to sell him to a 15 year old who would plop him into a 90 gallon. I knew I could sell him for $1000, the only thing that surprised me was how quickly it happened.

There's a lot more to a fish's value than just how big it is IMO. Condition means a lot. Quality over quantity, and it is damn hard to beat the quality of the fish in question.
