Would like few opinions from fellow ATF enthusiasts.

Damn, thats tough! I hope my Tanz turns out like yours! when you have multiple together is the aggression pretty bad?

Maybe more dithers will help?

That's a very bold and active ATF you have there bro, judging from the swimming posture in the video. I will hang on to it and work something out before selling - unless a grail fish comes along.

It is indeed rare to experience a silvery fish took out another predator (if indeed that happened to your wolf) than the other way round.

My Curupira gobbled up my 8 inch dorado recently. I am now pretty hesitant to add any silver fish into the tank unless it is at least the same size as the wolves.

Don't sell him bro.. I probably wouldn't throw him in the big tank either. May just end up disturbing the pecking order and cause some irreparable damage.. As to valuation, It just depends on the market. I just find transporting a large ATF is too much risk. May end up with tragic situation.. Unless you anesthize first.. To give you a reference of the pricing here in the east. A specimen like yours would go for about 3500-4500 rmb which is between 500 to 800 usd.

Someone in Ohio last year was selling one at 15+ inches for $350. last time I talked to him he hadn't found a buyer... But I really do like tatf especially large ones. If one that price pops up around me again I might just have to get it...
It's a different market around these parts, there's really no value in fish around here. Look how long it took for me to sell my curupira and I don't even want to tell you how cheap. The price wasn't the issue it was the market.

I think that you've grown him this far, keep him and see how big you can grow him....who else has grown a tatf to 24"? And then if he gets that big and you're still considering selling..... name your price, who could honestly tell you that your fish isn't worth it?

At the size it is...... Who has one?

Comparing to a Curu isn't apples to apples at all, Curu are LFS fish, very readily available and easily replaced.

To the question about multiple Tatf - aggression isn't terrible, they don't gash eachother, they just trim the teathers that grow on the dorsal and tail. The 2 I have together now swim side by side, it's just one looks funny cause it has no tail tethers and half a dorsal fin. Must be a thing to them cause my big one did the same thing, removed him and got pure harmony for about a month, then the next largest picked up where the other left off and began the trimming routine.

Dithers! Haha I'll take a pic of what happened last night....... Poor Masheer is all I have to say.

Has anyone ever tried Tarpon as dithers???? I think they need to be something tougher then barbs.

I started off with 3 indo pacific tarpons and now I have only 1. The 2 died because of my datnoids tho' not my ATFs. Having said that, IME tarpons are the perfect dithers for ATFs. They're tough and they can take a beating like no other... Here is a pic of my tarpon, the ATF, my payara and the flagtail. You can see that my flagtail's eye is gone, my payara has a cloudy eye, both thanks to my ATF... And the tarpon just has some fins torn up. And every now and then, the tarpon has a cloudy eye as well but I have come to realize that it isn't a big deal with these guys. FullSizeRender 3.jpg

Ouch......

Oh wow. Reminds me of a pair of red heads i had. Woke up one day to find their tails and eyes missing. I had moved my dats to a different tank by then so 100% of the credit goes to my ATF.

That masheer got roughed up. Who's the aggressor? I think dithers only work when there are enough of them to keep the predator from zoning in on one of them. On a side note I had 3 tarpons years ago and personally didn't care for them but they do grow very large so it might be worth a try.
