Would LOVE to keep a bumblebee cichlid but dont know if i have the room

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes, but it would be rather boring. Heres what you could do. As long as you dont have too many rocks/decorations and there is enough room to swim (Rocks and decor take up space that could be filled with water), you could keep 1 male and 3-4 female bumblebees in you 55.

well i have a bumblebee now in my 180, and she is around 4 inches long--shes a big girl. i also have a female kenyi that i had to remove from my 90 gallon because she is so aggressive she attacks everything in the tank except for a full grown male Venustus. If i were you, i would not put a kenyi or a bumblebee in a 55--i just dont think its big enough for them..
since a 55 is really the smallest you should go with for africans, what about some of the dwarf species? rusties, salousies, etc.. if i were you, id just pick 2 species i like and go with that instead of mixing a bunch who will eventually outgrow a 55 or kill eachother in the process.

What do you mean by boring? not swimming around much or no variation?
could i keep 1 male, 2 females and a red zebra and johanni female
how do i tell the sex of a bumblebee?

That should be okay if you have plenty of filtration. Males are generally darker than females.

Could he still be healthy for awhile before i get my emperor 400 with only the aquaclear 70 for now?
Yes, If he is the only fish in the tank. Why dont you wait until you get the 400 and then start a "community" african cichlid tank. You can have different species you like.
