Guppies, mollies, platy's, convicts, rosy reds, fat head minnows, and gold fish are easy to breed. The only problem with waiting for food for large fish is that you need the fish to grow which requires breeding and grow out tanks. You could wait months before you get something that is a decent size for your larger fish. The cost and maintenance to grow large feeders is a job in itself.

Since your fish are smaller they can eat the smaller feeders and be happy. I don't think they should be fed, feeders as a staple.

i will have 2 tiger Muskie, 6 large mouth bass, 8 blue gill, 12 golden shiners, 1brown bullhead, 4 creek chubs, 2 chubsucker, 5 black crappie, 1 yellow bullhead, 4 small mouth bass:). the dimentions of the tank will be 144"x48"x36"(1077gallons).:) i wasn't sure if this would be over stocked or not if you have any sugestion let me know. the filtraiton is 388gallon ply wood sump(150allons of nylon pot scrubby, 2 200 micron filter socks 7" for mech filtration, 3 pumps ViaAqua Water Pump Model 2300 , Continuous Siphon Overflow 1-1/2" Bulkhead one to tank and one from tank, two bio media areas lead to one pump in middle.):) turn over rate is about 3.1 with 3400GPH.:) gravel will be used on the bottom. let me know if you need to know anything eles.:)

IDK if im right, but im building a 20 by 20 pond, 3ft-6ft deep and about 11,000 gallons for black crappie and some lmb. And still, i think it may be too small? So a 1,000 gal tank to me, would be a waste of $ b/c those muskies and bass would kill everything else.

flathead and bluecatfish not a smart idea, they will get everything in the tank including the muskies if small enough, chubs will be gone within a couple days, and the bullhead will be fine just will be overly aggressive towards smaller fish. good luck

i wouldn't breed goldfish as feeders, they're too oily. look for breeding something like shad(if it can be done) mollies, or some sort of larger native minnow.

this is a really old thread i gave my muskie away due to what i heard thanks anyway
