yes of cource. i have 2 in a 55 and lots of other big south american cichlids and he is fine.
 
Full grown Oscars have no place in anything less than 75 gallons. Hmm a 55g is 12in wide oscars typically get over 12in how the hell are they going to turn around. Just about any fish can go with any fish when small but that don't mean they will survive. There is a difference between surviving and thiving and living a full healthy life.

I'm gonna have to side with mostlycichlids here. Maybe you could keep them alive for a while, but you are talking about massive waterchanges, not just biweekly, I'd say once they are over 8 inches, you will be doing a minimum of 3 75%ish w/c's a week, and if infact they do stay healthy in that environment, you will be carrying that waterchange schedule for 10 years plus. If you want to sign your life away, I guess you could try it.

I agree. 75 to me is absolute bare minimum for one and two would be at least a 100 gallon long tank.
 
Hmm....If you just want some object in the tank that you can look at...then put whatever you want in there. But if you care and love fish......You wouldn't want to put 3 Oscar in a 55g...........
