Would you let a total stranger into your home?

Needing a weapon in hand to answer the door does make that statement very accurate. The other option is there are a large number of people on here who are paranoid, delusional or pathological liars.

There's a difference between paranoia and reality. The reality of it is, if you watch the news, it's never anything good. Home invasions, beating up and robbing the elderly. So what's the problem if you have your firearm concealed? It's not hurting anyone by being in your possession. It just makes you cautious.

Never said there was anything wrong with having one, but needing it on your body while sitting in your house is paranoid at the very least.

Saves the hassle of putting it on and taking it off every time you leave the house and come back. I don't need my wallet in my pocket normally while I'm in my house, but it's always there. Eventually, things just become habit. Its always better to have something and not need it, versus the rare occasion you need something, and don't have it close enough to make any difference.

Because you never know when thw lights will go out or the zombies attack or the aliens invade right? That is paranoia. I have never felt the need to have one on my body at all times, particularly sitting on my couch. If it is such a hassle to take on and off perhaps you might consider a simpler system, or moving to where it's safer. The whole country is not so crime ridden that every car going down the block is a potential threat.

I agree 100%. And IMO that whole gun mentality is flawed. It is solely based on the theory the "crazies" don't own guns. Hypothetically if you pull out your gun, only to realize they have a bigger one, Or 2 of them...then what? Personally I carry a pack of wolves and John Wayne's ghost in my trunk because you can ever be too careful.

Think that's flawed Too. If someone has more guns/a bigger gun than you really shouldn't matter one gun will kill you regardless. So there still should be no then what.

Sometimes I bring a bat to the door with me if I'm by myself and its dark out. Since only "crazies" are the ones with guns here (kinda)

I agree there is a difference in paranoia and just being safe. I have two handguns and they stay in my house and as I mentioned before I live in a rough neighborhood. every day and night that I have to go out I don't carry them period. I know how to box and kick box so if it really came down to defending myself I would no problem fist fighting someone but the thing is these young kids don't want to get punched in the face so they rather carry weapons. So in that case I'd rather be safe then sorry

Have you honestly ever had to use your gun? I could justify a tinfoil hat by saying better safe than sorry. Doesn't mean it is necessary. To each his own but saying you need to grab a gun to answer the door wreaks of "Doomsday preppers" to me.

Never said I grabbed a gun to answer the door. A handgun concealed is part of my everyday dress, just like shoes a shirt or brushing my teeth. It's that I do everyday. It is routine. I'm no where near doomsday day prepped mentality although I have to give them props for there dedication.

If you are ever in a situation when things go real bad then those that are unprepared seem to suffer the most. It also doesn't come down to whose gun is bigger. I actually train with mine very regular. We hit the range at least once a week & shoot off about 200 rds, I'm pretty accurate.most thugs/lnut jobs just point & shoot & hope they hit something. You may not realize but shooting is a sport & a hobby for a lot of people. That's what they do to relax & it is fun & safe.

Do you think those people that went to see the batman move or those little kids in that school expected what happened to them? No it was some freak nut that went crazy. If there was just 1 person there carrying & was able to act on it the possibility of a different outcome would be there but there wasn't.

I will not be a victim nor will my family if there ever is a situation like that if we are there & I am able
& have I ever had to use my gun is not really something to discuss of a fish forum or any forum to be honest. It's for the courtroom which I'm sure if you have awesome Google fu you could read about it.

OK guys we're pushing the boundaries here. We all know that gun threads are no longer allowed, but this thread has become a de facto discussion on the pros and cons of concealed carry and the need to have a weapon in the home.

Let's get back on subject, shall we?

Rob's right and this is going down the road to perdition.

Suppose someone knocked on your door and claimed to have lived in your house years ago,or what if someone claimed to be very impressed with the way your house looks on the outside and asked if they could come in and see how the inside looks, would you be flattered and consider letting them in to have a quick look around?

Yes I would or no I wouldn't should have been good enough from the start.

Not, I would answer the door but I would be in an M1A1 Abrams with a depleted uranium round loaded and ready. It always has to get out of controll and go off on 15 tangents.
