I have never seen a thread get closed that meets those requirements (other than marketplace threads, but that's not the same).

if the thread can be cleaned up, i see no reason to close it. it punishes everyone for the actions of a few. you wouldn't close a bridge because people repeatedly jump off it; you clean up the mess, have someone keep an eye out for jumpers and life goes on. closing the thread is letting the asses that ruined it win, like me and you are doing to this one.

keep it free i say
but if i have to pay oh well
i might do it or just start some sort of face book group with experienced fish keepers
face book is still free aswell as many other sites dedicated soley to fish

Joses question was not about a paid membership to have access to Mfk. It was about a premium account only. If you didn't want the premium membership, you would stay just as you are. You wouldn't have to pay anything and continue to browse/post for free. Those that are willing to pay a little would receive benefits like Jose pointed out in his opening statement. The only members that would be paying are those that choose too of their own free will.

exactly ....and the reason I mentioned the designs made by Tigrinus is not only they rock but he has one for each popular fish in the hobby (for example myself as a dat guy I have no interest in wearing an armatus shirt)

Personally, I am not on the site often enough to merit paying for the "perks" mentioned. At the same time, I see a few names on MFK daily (if not hourly). For these people, I could see how $10-$15 a year would be worth it. I think the "perks" plan should be an option.

You could set an example of how to keep a thread open instead of creating issues. We've had enough jumpers on this bridge, haha, lets keep the discussion positive please.

i get it, there are rules, this is not a democracy. but we're still allowed to question the rules and the judgment of those enforcing them. otherwise there would be a rule banning talking about the rules and moderator judgment.

As for this part, it was once wisely said in another thread to think of MFK as Neos house. He set the rules, we may not always agree with them, but out of respect for him we keep them. If you go to someones house and repeatedly question or challenge their rules, chances are you probably won't get invited over much either. LoL

I've donated to another all pet forum, I don't mind throwing a few bucks towards keeping a site I enjoy running. It included perks like a "members only" subforum, increased PM storage, etc but that's not my real reason for donating. The way it was set up, any donation made (if you could only afford $1, that's cool) would put you in the donators class.

I think even a button just to be able to donate a few bucks here and there through Paypal or something would be nice.

But, with all this, there does come the headache of managing the premium members. Such as people with premium memberships getting banned (and moaning because they paid...), people wanting their money back, etc.
