Higher class? I don't think so. What they paid for? Yes. Personally, I see it no different than a Flickr or Photobucket account. You can join for free and use the services like anyone else but if you pay a small fee, you receive a pro account which gives you extras like more storage space, allows you to upload much larger images and gives you ad-free browsing and sharing etc. I have never seen it create a hierarchy in peoples attitudes towards each other in those communities. I think most would treat it the same as a members post count and realise it means very little.

Take a quick look into the lounge and you'll see that this site is used as a social media almost as much as it's used as a fish forum, i doubt you can say that about flickr or photobucket. Everytype of social media has hierarchy

However, i do see what you're saying

:iagree: where it matters, post count doesnt mean anything to folks. and i dont see why this should be any different.

have you ever been on Photobucket or Flickr? there's A LOT more to it than just hosting photos. it's a massive community. friends, contacts, comments, discussions boards, groups, etc etc. it's not much different really

When APF had premium memberships, this is exactly how it was. The paying members thought they were an elite class.

You beat me to it.;) It is quite surprising just how much there is. What is more surprising is just how active it can be.:)

And in fact, when they did away with the premium memberships, most of the guys holding those memberships never came back because they didn't want the average joe to have the same perks. The whole issue tore APF apart.

You may be correct Gerry but I bet the ones that thought they were higher class would have thought so anyway, regardless of their account.
