Would you want to know.....?

I've had rays for close to 5 years now. I'll be the 1st to admit I don't post much in terms of advice..... I don't consider myself an expert by any means and this is half the reason I don't.

I enjoy watching the "armchair experts" regurgitate the same stuff over and over. Doesn't matter if they've kept rays for 2 months or 2 years if they kept them for 2 years with no issues then are they really experts? Not in my book. I want advice from the guy that's been in the trenches.... The guy that's seen enough die they can recognize things and change them before it's too late. Lets say someone has had rays for 3 years and never killed one..... To me this means they are great at preventative maintainance, where the guy who's had several sick ones and killed many may be more knowledgable as he's seen the shibby go down.

I've put my 2 cents in many times and been seems everytime I do someone wants to be devils advocate and argue the other side.... Which is fine but I am NOT going to defend my experience.... I share experience I've had with the many rays I've had.... That is all.

I get frustrated often. After being here several years I can completely understand why members such as Nic have bailed.... Hell I find myself at that point more and more every month that passes by.

But it's rubbin elbows with the experienced that keeps me coming back. I feel obligated to contribute as I have learned so much over the years because of being able to share with others and experience thier experiences.

This should be in general discussion. It seems like its still an ego thing. U can't say there's a right and a wrong way. Becuz there's many right ways. There isn't just 1 right way to raise anything, ray, dog, heck even a child. Yea there's things u can do wrong. But there a ton of right ways. If there wasnt, there wouldnt be as many long term ray keepers out there as there is. And there's no way for sum1 on here to determine if "their doctor is the best fit doctor" or know a background check on anyone on here.

Agreed, there is always stuff to learn and there is no substitute for experience, and I love Jimi Hendrix quotes! ONe can only imagine what great music he would have written had he not died.

I think you will find that all of the longtermers are 'doing it' pretty much the same way, so that in the end it DOES only come down to one way to do it right with only minor variations on the method, such as changing lots of water very often, but varying in method by doing it either manually or through constant flow/drip. My experience ( ) had taught me the hard way that there are no shortcuts, you gotta do the work.

I actually agree with this guy but to an extent...

I often ask people for advice on keeping my rays on this forum and majority of the time they give me solid advice, but I often get 12 different answers. Different things work for different people and different rays so that may be why multiple solutions in some cases are possible. I take everything with a grain of salt I hear online, if it's on here or my car forum which I moderate. The only sources I can rely on 100% are scholarly articles published by the experts themselves. This coming from a college student so I am very big into the articles as opposed to somebodys post who may be making it up completely.

I did a couple months of reading before entering into ray keeping but in now way am I on the advice giving level.

For me I will take advice from experience over expert any day.

Much rather take advice from someone who has gotten their hands dirty through
experience than someone who just regurgitates information that they have
read somewhere. That is why when I do have a question, I take it to someone I
trust through PM or email.
Over the last 2/12 years that I have kept rays I have seen alot of the Ray forum
members fade away, and to be honest I find myself doing the same.
Not away from the hobby itself but just the fourms.
The one thing that keeps me coming back (mainly in the background) is the friends
I have made, the intereste in how their rays are doing and of course to
show off a new ray that I might have purchased.
