I was browsing BlueAquariums.org today and stumbled across this photo of a planted tank. Absolutely blew my mind away. Yes, it is real, and no there is no explanation as to how they managed to keep that island suspended on the site.

So, I decided to consult you guys. There are some pretty brilliant minds on this site when it comes to aquascaping and I was hoping we could come up with some theories or ideas as to how he managed to pull this off. If possible, I want to replicate it. I am absolutely enthralled and have to have it in my 125 gal!!!!

So... Could he have suspended it wil very thin fishing line from the top? is there something coming from the back wall of the tank that is holding it up that can't be seen?

Alot of plants are neutrally buoyant or float.A combination of buoyancies would get it to hang in the tank.Id imagine it would need something to get it to stay right there or it would float off to a corner.I think its just barely sinkable and is hanging by a thread.

I think its slightly buoyant, wether from the plants or something placed in it and is being held in place by fishing line anchored to the bottom of the tank.

I don't know. I would vote for the fishing line from the top. I'm equally mesmerized with this set up though. It's beautiful!

as much as every1 loves to look at these tanks, trying to do it at home it will just not look the same, look at the background and ask yourself how to replicate that?

I think it would be anchored to the bottom and the plants were buoyant but it still would be floating of to the sides unless it's really well anchored.

Either way it's awesome =]

u can almost see what appears to be a line in the dead center top of the island. if its not a string its connected in the back by some sort of support. It is almost impossible to do that as you see it and not have it move all over the place on a regular basis. every time the temp or the weight of the plants changed it would move significantly.
