as much as every1 loves to look at these tanks, trying to do it at home it will just not look the same, look at the background and ask yourself how to replicate that?
most of these tanks dont have a background. when it comes time to take pictures, theyll add a posterboard on the back and add lights all around and underneath the board to get the neat lighting effects. they also remove all equipment from the tank

My guess is there os some kind of platform that has suction cups or something of the like hat are stuck to the back glass and then have plants grown off that.

Interesting...

So more or less the tanks don't always look like that, just for pictures. Then all the unsightly heaters and filter tubes goes back in...
yeah pretty much. although planted tanks like this wont have that much equipment to begin with. usually all you'll have is the inlet/outlet for a canister filter and thats it. heating is usually run in line with the canister filter, likewise with the co2 line.

if you look at Amano's awesome pictures, you'll usually see a nice ripple or current on the surface, even though there's no equipment. they use a hair dryer for this cool effect. planted tank photography uses a lot of tricks to make them look as clean as they do.

lots of guys also use lily pipes for their canister filter lines to avoid ugly equipment :)
