Well they are basically the same species but you're right, T. ornata luteola can take much drier conditions than T. ornata ornata. Deserts like deep substrate for making tunnels to escape from the heat, something that aquarium does not provide.

Well the fact is that they dont like the kind of heat a bearded dragon needs and they need moist almost like a normal ornate. Even this guys spend the more hot periods hidding in burrows and they only come out in raining periods, during the nigth and on coolers periods. They simply dont expose themselfes to the same desert sun bearded dragons need to survive. That turtle will simply endup with ear abseses or swollen eyes to lack of moist. That of corse putting apart desiase transmission bethween the animals, the fact that the worse place to raise a box turtle is a indoor terrarium, wrong substrate for both animals ,etc.
