So I finally managed to convince my mother to come look at my new fish and what do I hear?
"You always buy ugly brown fish with no color. I explicitly told you that the only kind of jack dempsey allowed in this house are the pretty blue ones (she likes the electric blues). Why'd you buy more of those ugly silver fish. You already have them in your other tank. You need to save for college! You have no college savings and I don't have any savings for you and you go to college next year! Stop wasting your money!"
Then after ranting about my vicious ugly brown fish, she complains that I bought a fish that looks like an ugly goldfish (yet she adores orandas and other mutated varieties), that my turtle should just be dumped in a nearby pond because he has to have a water change every other day after he broke his filter or his tank gets dirty really fast, that my 180 gallon looks horrible with just my stingray and a single adult scalare angelfish in there, and that my tomato clown is a waste of tank space (she's by herself in a 20 gallon because she can't live with my percula pair in the big tank). :irked:

I guess she believes Jack Dempseys are ugly vicious brown fish that kill everything and that my red devil looks like a goldfish. I should've just bought a giant oscar. That would have been quite a seen. All of this is after I tore down my 40 gallon 2 weeks ago that I was making into a terrarium for a gecko so that she could have a school of neons, black neons, and platies.

Sorry for the rant, but here's the fish I purchased (I actually thought they were very colorful, and that she would like something I bought for once... guess I was wrong).

Its best to just move out and get your own place so you don't have to hear the crap

& your lucky she allows you to have all this..."187 Gallon Mixed Reef 180 Gallon: Male Motoro Stingray 125 Gallon: Blood Parrots, Severums, Convicts, Texas, Mbuna, Striped Raphael Catfish, Giant Danio and Tinfoil Barbs. A lot of other tanks as well."

To me those are great parents, at least they let you get those tanks and fish even if they think they're ugly. All I'm allowed is a 30 and a soon to be aquired 75 after months of negotiation, let alone a 180. Not only that there's no way i'd be allowed a ray. Man I wish I had your problem. I also have to ask how you could afford all that stuff in your signature?

P.S nice cichlids

Seems weird that your parents let you get all those aquariums only to complain about what you put in them. I'd be pretty happy to have that many aquariums at those sizes, so I'd be more willing to compromise with my parents on the stocking of said aquariums; it's way easier to get them to be fine with what you get if you let them help you pick out the fishes.

To the OP though your mother isn't agreeing with the fish you bought, she is definitely supportive of your hobby. Even if everything was bought by you and even if your paying some rent, at the end of the day it's her home. I'm also guessing the tanks are taking up more space than your room. That being said imagine what portion of the rent your really responsible for considering how much room your hobbies taking. All I'm saying is try to appreciate the liberties she is giving you and how she's supporting you. You shouldn't hold it against her for not liking what you like, but appreciate the fact she's letting you express yourself thru your hobby despite not aggreeing with it.

Again with the think before you post. Calling other members names does not help your cause, does not make you look tougher, nor keep you from getting banned. If you think something isn't right, report it and let the staff deal with it.

Did I miss something? Didn't notice any name calling in the few posts in this thread...??

'Tis the truth and very well put, bro.:iagree:

On the other hand, fishfreak2009, I really think you should also spend a bit of time thinking of your future seeing as your mom already told you to tighten the belt. Save a bit while it's still early. You need to learn planning your budget properly. I am sure your parents will be prouder if you prove to them you can spend your money wisely. College isn't really cheap especially if you want to keep up with your hobby at the same time. I graduated college two years ago, already working and have realized money is not very easy to get by unless you work hard to earn it. By the time you earn your college degree and already working, that's the time you can enjoy your hobby at full blast if you choose to continue it.

We've deleted those questionable posts. Chris' post is simply a warning to repeating offenders.:)
