 you got some of them ugly brown river fish?

Ayo, i'm sorry your mom doens't like your choice in fish but who really cares. sure her vicious ugly attack was annoying but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. now if she had said that about your girlfriend......ooowie, them be fighting words

Yep,regular old river fish lol.

How about that.My wife calls my armatus an ugly river fish and I asked her,"well where do you think most fish come from?"...In her opinion, all brown or drab fish come from our local creeks and rivers.

I feel you. My favorites are the doradid catfish, and the wife prefers sparkly fish like satanoperca leucistica. There just aren't many sparkly catfish!

But she'll change her mind in six months when your JD's are looking like a bag of diamonds.

That's what I tried to explain to her... Oh well I guess. I'll see what her reaction is after I add a festae, a green terror, and hopefully some fancy plecos. Maybe I'll even add some Jewel cichlids as dithers...

Actually, about being able to have the ray; I actually wasn't allowed to have a ray for quite a long time. Then, I kinda just brought home a reticulated, and while she didn't like the idea of a venomous fish, when she saw the reaction he got at a christmas party we had she finally approved. Then, he ate a piece of krill that was too big and actually choked on it. After that, I came home the next day from school to a tank full of little fish, and was pretty angry to say the least. so I went out and found this beautiful motoro, added him and watched as he slowly devoured them all over the course of a week. Most of the tanks in my signature were bought years ago. Also, I teach piano, and have funded the purchase of all the fish I have purchased the past 3 years.

I do think I know why she was angry though; I found out today that my parents decided that since the tank was empty last week, they were going to fill it with my mom's favorite fish (fancy goldfish). I guess that's not going to happen now, but at least she won't make me take them back to the store.

Also sorry for the really long posts, as well as all my ranting, but I do like to be able to talk to people about what I like. Most of my family tells me I'm limited in how much I'm allowed to talk about my fish, and they usually don't listen anyways.

I know it can get annoying but when you live with parents you gotta deal with it. My mom was not thrilled with my tank and larger tank and even larger tank and so on. I just kinda bought what I wanted and took care of it. They were not thrilled at first. Then I got more tanks (misc. smallish ones) and then I got a reptile... my mom was nice and supportive but still was not thrilled. I had a tank number limit (not size) put on me lol, can't say I blame her though they were all over the house). While I know it was prob. not my place to just buy a huge tank or multiple smallish tanks i think it was a good thing (maybe not at first). Anywho I got my mom involved in my fish and my reptile and then she was ok with and liked it. She fed my bearded dragon (even cleaned it o_o I was shocked). She liked the fish and enjoyed watching them. When I moved out, guess what I heard? No leave the tank, I miss the tank, I want a tank.

I have a lot of tanks in storage and one that I had torn down during a fish move. I had everything ready to go on the 55gal I torn down (which was a birthday gift to me from them - it was the third tank I had ever owned). I liked this tank a lot and did not want to store it so I thought hmm I will set it up for my mom (I would suggest doing this for your mom she seems interested so set her up a tank for something she likes - then maybe she will not care about what yours look like so much and leave you a lone). I set up a 55gal rock dweller tang tank. I started her off with my 5 f2 neolamp. busheri gombe and then asked her what she would like. She said she like the colorful fish that I liked (I keep mostly tang chiclids) so I took her to the pet store and showed her fish that would be good/compatible for her tank and she picked them out (a leleupi, mustax, 2 helianthus and a daffodil brichardi). She then said she liked my catfish (a synodontis) so I took her to another lfs and let her pick out the synodontis she wanted (I have some large tanks so if it gets to big I make sure that it is compatible with my fish/tanks). That really made her enjoy it and now her and my dad love the tank. She can do her own water changes properly and they have learned how to clean off the rocks/decor in the tank and everything. I am very proud of them and it looks so nice and clean every time I go over there.

I personally feel the best way to get them to enjoy something or get them off your back is to get them involved and set them up with their own stuff so they can enjoy what they like as well.

Ya, I did set up a tank for her... I turned a 40 gallon vivarium into a neon tetra, black neon tetra, gourami, and platy tank for her (because she was always bugging me that she liked those kinds of fish). The blood parrots in the 125 gallon aquarium are her fish as well.

Oh well, I guess. Although I wonder what her reaction would be to the payara I've been thinking about putting in with my stingray... A silver fish with huge teeth.
