Went to PetZone yesterday. They had one in a display tank. Says NOT FOR SALE along with the albino aros.

Here are my two helpers(father and son) who made a emergency visit to help save the life of the Arapaima shown. 24hours before this pic was taken I had two pima's that I raised together after a year or less in the 500 you can see size, one decided to fight me to the death to break out of his tank!!! The worst thing I have ever dealt with from a fish the whole tank turned blood red!!! Immediately the other Pima started acting erratically u can see in the pic my helper constantly give him food to help keep him calm(we started 7pm and finished moving fish 7am)!!! No sleep that night otherwise fish would have killed himself like the other did the night before..The pond was build under and goes though the stand of the 500g and opens up in each side. It's a year later and now fish has out grown pond needs to be expanded!!!!

That tank looks more like 180gal (6'x2'x2') than 500gal
 
I would say unless you live in a tropical climate with tons of space to expand. Don't get one of these monsters lol
