My friend used to have one that had this type of growth coming out of one gill only. It was a silver aro, it lived for quite a long time actually. The growth was darker in color

I recon it looks pretty cool, if it wasnt a disease or somthing and it wasnt hurting or affecting the fish in any way, i'd keep it. Poor guy

Looks like a lion arowana with that thing growing around its head, I wonder if theres still a way to treat that kind of disease.
