then they should have a sign that says

WANTED: EXPERIENCED FISH KEEPERS FOR THIS JOB!
The problem with that is they don't want experienced fish keepers, they want minimum wage clerks who they can shift all over the store. They buy cheap fish from cheap sources and it is more cost effective to flush a tankful than to treat them. Several years ago a friend of mine quit her job when not only was she told to sell sick fish she was charged for the price of the meds she dosed the tanks with. Go corporate ethos!

Many of their products or products they sell are made my people in third world country sweatshops...if they don't care about that then they don't care about fish.

i dont like wal-mart.. but in their defense there are a bunch of but head high school kids that dump chemicals and food and other crap in their tanks while ppl are not looking..if they could lock the lids so ppl cant put crap in the tank it might get a little better.

alot of **** is made in third work country's, and some it is ****ty period!

example- Ipod's are made in china i believe, and nearly every one of my friends that had it returned it at least once, my brother returned it 4 times before he got one that actually worked right, cept mine, mine work the day i got it and it still work to this day

the problem is, Wal-Mart makes so little money on fish that they don't really care.

most of the profits come from the other departments.

if it was a petstore, then it's a whole different story, because live-stock make up for a lot of its revenue.

Same is true of a lot of things made right in the USA.

this reminds me of a lfs by me this @$$hole has land turtles in tank full of water and most of them are dead then another tank with dead tortoises and like 1 or 2 live ones also dead reptiles with live ones eating them and the fish are in the same nazi style condition its like walking into a f-ing nightmare i asked him once after i finally seen enough and he said mind my own business i felt like knocking his careless honky @$$ out :swear: , but yeah the walmart fish here are in the same dispicable condition :(

personally I wouldn't but fish from petsmart either.
they do treat if their stuff is sick but consider 70% loss on new angels acceptable
the issue is that the chain stores will hire anyone who will drug test negative (once)
and work for minimum wage. They probably sell the fish pretty cheap because a lot of people go to look at the fish and then, pick up pet supplies and food which is where they make their money. so it's a loss leader
Most people probably don't consider fish to be very sensitive
I just got obsessed this year.
started with 2 55 gallon tanks, mixed tropicals which i killed out of ignorance.
luckily for me AND the fish I learn fast and am somewhat obsessive-compulsive
and I've been lucky enough to have access to a lot of knowledgable people
Now I breed angels
but my finished basement ON A SLAB
220 x1 150x2 (soon to be 4) 125x1
arounf the walls
I want to put in a large indoor pond or pool for my rays and arrowanas
whatever is easy to maintain
With regrds to the cruelty issue though
isn't feeding live fish somewhat cruel?
also, how about when i cut up the earthworms with scissors for the baby rays?
(besides prikling them with pwdered garlic and vitamins)
Oh and interestingly enough
some cats do have thumbs !
they are polydactyls
