yes, i agree :naughty:

bruce i have the 3 tems that probably came from the same batch as yours.
mine are really really thriving now, very active, eating like beasts and aready becoming tame.

this is what i have found out from my experience

1.these tems are very VERY prone to stress they are the worst cichla ive ever encountered that are soo prone to stress. IMO when u r next to the tank every movement by you should be deliberate trying your best not to spook them, may pose a problem when you doing water changes in a small tank

2.when i kept them in my 24X15x12 grow out they didnt do well

3.moved them to my 55g grow out they loved it were not skitish at all and became beasts. i think larger space make them feel more secure, for e.g when your doing water changes they can just go to one side of the tank if they feel threatened.

3.im keeping my tank constantly dosed with aduarium salt ATM, the tems love it, but will slowly reduce the amount as they get larger eventually to no salt

4.i have plenty of oxygen in the tank and my temp is 30degrees celcius(doin well in this temp) when theyre about 7-8inchs i will lower the temp to 28d.celcius

5. IMO pellets are NO NO for young cichla, i feed prawns(cut into small pieces with scissors) and mini smelt(small enough to fit in their mouths or cut with scissors) and occasionally chopped mussels. and also i vary the amount i feed them in a day

good luck bruce if u need any help give me a shout

maybe the loads of food you fed them.

all very true!
they are definitely the most prone to stress at a young age to any of the more common cichla.
i do almost all of the above.
one thing i have always done to get them alot more used to people and less prone to stress is to get them used to handfeeding.
