As long as it isn't showing any distress or irritation on her underside I would not worry about it.

Just curious, why do you say that? I haven't had any problems with it yet and she's been in this tank for a month or two now.

Probably wrong, but to me it looks coarser than the usual aquarium gravel.

Wow, lol. The darker gravel did seem to make a difference. I wonder if it was a coincidence? Has anyone else had similar experiences with rays changing color to more closely match the substrate?

rays tend to look better on dark substrates/ bottoms..... she is very nice...
