id go with an aro and a bunch of discus

A black aro or 2, lots o' discus, rams, and the basic community fish. That would look awesome!!!!!! I'd also put an auto water change system in there.

i know u said u had unlimited $$$$$ for this but do the ppl you know REALLY know what this will cost in the long run kinda like this

1000$ tank (starfire)
400-600$ filters( 2 FX5 (what i would do or more(
75-100$ good amout of starting filter media
80-100$ glass tops
120$ two 36" strip lights
100-150 substrait
200$+ decor (could be less depends on taste)
60-100$ 2 heaters
200-400$ stand (are u building your own)
100$ basement jacks (if floor is not solid)
60-80$ ?powerheads?
200$+ mics(water test kit, python, magent cleaner.......)
thats just in the tank now the fish
60-120$ disucs Each (depending on size, type, place or perchase)
80-400$ Aros Each (again depending on the above)
100-400$ freashwater ray
untold other amounts if doing a large community tank (hell i've seen larger plecos for 150-200)

so i mean not to scare anyone and i know that you know what this will prolly cost in the long run but if i told someone that i wanted a tank set up in my house and i didn't have a clue what i was getting into when they came to me and said ok i need 4000$ i would flip regaurdless of my ocupation:eek:

and again you might have acess to some good deals but idk thats my rough (keyword rough) guess on what this would cost

If the main attraction is the fish, Africans are your best option. While Discus are undoubtably the most colourful, I think all the plants and bright decor would detach the average blokes eyes from the fish and onto the decor. With Africans, the decor can be bleak, but when you have dozens of mature males in there, people will always focus on the fish. I vote for Africans. Cheaper and far less maintainence then a Discus setup.

A colony of Frontosas is always impressive, especially with a nicely aquascaped tank.

They are classy, graceful, and beautiful. Also fairly easy to maintain!

yeah it's crazy, I already told her 4 - 5000 dollars as an estimate and she seemed pretty okay with it so that's a plus. we'll see if she's still okay with it on D-Day (day I order everything) though haha.
