i don't know why but im scared to order a fish offline. not bein able to see it before i accept the fish as mine own. but then again im new to the game

If you hope to acquire your dream oddballs then you have to make the transition to online buying. Everyone I know who has done it (myself included) become addicted.

I called tfd just last week and they told me that they would only sell to vendors. It was a lady on the phone. Is there some kind of password or what??

It depends on their mood, honestly, and who you get on the phone. If you get the owner he will usually hook you up. But if you live near one of their wholesale buyers (usually a private LFS) he will often not sell to you to protect his clients business.

That said, I've made several purchases under fifty dollars including shipping and he never seems to mind helping me out.

Meet the minimum dollar amount for an order is the only requirement.

This is not always true. See my post above yours.

Just called back and got a guy this time...still no dice. Oh well I guess.

yeah if you are in the michigan/ohio/indiana/ky/pa area, the guy at TFD typically wont sell to you. (i had a $2,500 order arranged at one point with several members and he still said no)
if you deal with the woman, some members have had decent luck getting her to sell

if you use their aquabid site though, i think you can be from pretty much anywhere.

anyhow, i've gotten fish from them through other members on here, and i have had good luck

but as everyone else has said, i've heard nothing but bad stories about their rays. i would pass on the rays if i were you.

FlorenceBigFish is in the Cincinnati area, and i think he had some CB pups for sale???
i've seen gotten fish from him, and i've seen his ray setup and i would trust him if i were looking for rays

i hope that helps ?!?!?

Ask sbuse about his experience with TFD. 10 rays, 8 losses and sold the other 2 before they died...

ya, it was bad...i got other fish from them aswell and the other fish were fine and well...i got pbass, aros and payaras...some of the rays came in heavy fungused, some came in super skinny and some came in healthy...did all kinds of aclimation squirt/dump, drip..ect...they had fish lice and one of my qt tanks i found a fish lice in a week ago that randomly showed up in the tank that was empty since the rays and was treated with every lice killer around...

other fish from them seem fine, but i will never get rays from them again...they were nice and easy for me to work with(i dealt with joe and pete), but the rays stock has alot to be disired...

I am surpised and somewhat glad to hear that.

Strange operation over there IMO. They always told us that they only sold to vendors(LFS). Then a day later a kid would come in and talk about a $100 group order they did with their friends and ***** about the price on a $20 EBJD or $40-$50 arowana. Also, you can go buy one fish from them super cheap on aquabid. Thats not what wholesalers are for and not good business in my book.

In the end its like cutting their own throats.

If you have a LFS, PLEASE SUPPORT IT! The benefits will far outweigh the $5 you save having something cheap shipped in. Only order if you can't obtain what you want from a LFS. My $.02.

I was thinking of ordering some fish from this guy also, I talked to Joe on the phone and he seemed kinda grumpy. I was not going to get anything as fragile as a ray, but now I am reconsidering. Thoughts on this?
