Modest_Man;1665623; said:The xanthic jag carried the double recessive allele for xanthism, (xx). His mate was a wild type, so she would be homozygous (aka the same) dominant (XX). 100% of their offspring would then be heterozygous (aka different) for the xanthic trait (Xx) but appear wild type. Cross them (which has just happened) and you'll get a 3:1 ratio of wild type phenotype (what they look like) to xanthic phenotype.
The genotype (what the alleles are) on this spawn though is 1:2:1 with 25% being homozygous dominant (XX; wild type) 50% being heterozygous (Xx; xanthic carriers) and 25% being homozgyous recessive (xx; xanthic).
I love genetics. Best of luck growing the fry out. It would be a great accomplishment to introduce a new color morph to the hobby.
That sucks. Youll just have to keep tryin hopefully the next batch will make it.Unfortunately none of the spawn made it to free-swimming - perished as wrigglers. They did not look to even be 'wriggling' very well to be honest - oh well we shall try again...
