Xbox 360 HD DVD drive now officially $49.99

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've had my 360 replaced once and I know people who have had it replaced 2, 3 and even 4 times. The hardware is undeniably ****ty and the games aren't graphically up to par for next gen but at least they are a lot of fun to play and there are lots.

I think this shows how the 360 is good, not bad. Since its an external drive, MS still has the ability to create a new external drive to play blu-ray movies. If the studios had all decided to go HD-DVD instead of Blu-Ray, everyone with a PS3 would have been screwed since the drive was built in.

Being able to change with the market trends sounds smart to me, its not MS fault that HD-DVD didnt win the hi-def format battle, and since that format is now going away, why not sell it really cheap and get at least some money for it.

PS3 isn't screwed if Blu-ray didn't win. If it didn't win the HD war PS3 games would still be produced on a Blu-ray disc nonethless. I dont know about you but in my opinion I like how Blu-Ray discs can holdmore data meaning bigger game data storage so either way, even if Blu-ray lost it would still be the basis for Ps3 games.

Smart & Sneaky is the description for Microsoft. They already knew about the capacity of HD-DVD as compared to Blu-ray so they made the external on purpose just in case HD-DVD lost out. It all comes down to digital data capcity storage. It just made sense that the one that could hold more in it with the same footprint size would win. HD-DVD drives are cheaper than Blu-Ray drives. Now the question is, can Microsoft have an Xbox bundle that has a XBOX360, Hard Drive AND external Blu-Ray drive that will be cheaper than the 40GB PS3 which is now priced at $399. The current Xbox360 with a Harddrive is already $350 without the Blu-Ray yet.

at least it would have kept the people who copy the disks away lol...... people who think they going to have a 30 gb game any time soon is just fooling their self.

Aren't graphically up to par? I know some games aren't the BEST but I mean come on, what are you comparing the 360 to in graphics? The PS3? Name 10 games on the PS3 that have better graphics than on the 360. Oh wait, that is all the games that are currently on the PS3. Too bad most of them fall short of being graphically up to par with Next Gen consoles.

Oh that's a low blow there. LOL

But to answer your question. I'll pick 2 games that are on both platforms:

-Burnout Paradise
-Devil May Cry 4

I don't think we are going to see a lot of games that are PS3 specific or 360 specific anymore. Not like it was maybe 5 years ago. And the games that are going to be console specific really need to be spectacular. With the announcement of Gears of War 2, they are really drilling in on PS3. With the first being a huge seller, this is going to be a much anticipated sequel.

I think overall the Xbox360 is a good system with good games, but I won't buy it because I know it will break. It just pisses me off how Microsoft chose to go the low quality hardware route with the system and how they made later revision to it rather than actually taking their time to put together a good quality machine with it's first release. They were just so in a hurry to beat Sony to the market. It's just sad that we the consumers are the ones paying for it.

Agreed. It seems that you will be able to get the majority of games out there, regardless of which system you own.

I'm always buying new toys, but now that Blu Ray is the clear victor I'll probably just buy a PS3 for a BluRay player and I'll also be able to play Resistance and Drakes Fortune...not to mention the Final Fantasy series.
