Xbox One, thoughts?

 • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Scrambling is exactly what they're doing, did u see who wrote today's announcement? The same guy that said last week if you don't like the connection requirement to just buy a 360 instead? It only doesn't matter how this happened if you were going to bend over and take it either way. They aren't just doing everyone some big favor by changing their minds, removing those restrictions was the last thing they wanted to do because now they can't control the used game market (although that's only a small portion of the market they're after). There were just such overwheling cries of foul play and greed that Microsoft couldnt ignore us like they did at E3. And they're basically punishing people who preordered for all the bad reviews by removing the ability to play games without the disk in (aka physical DRM, and you can't resell downloaded games anymore so there's your digital drm). Most of us here would be connected to Live while the console is on anyways, so if anything today's announcement should be considered bad news unless you buy all of your games used or live in a 3rd world country without any internet access. Here's a quote straight from the press release:

''These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.

Thank you again for your candid feedback.''

Translation: We're tired of all your whining and complaining so you don't have to let us verify your account everyday, but now you can't play games without the disk in or resell the ones you download from us. Keep it up and we'll remove the Kinect bundle next.

I think its a good move for microsoft, but i also think it makes them look weak or something. It makes me have an "unsure" feeling about the console. Because i dont think they even know what they are doing. Sounds like lots of updates and problems at first. but thats IMO.

I'm not a microsoft hater, i have a 360. Theres just a lot of things the ps4 is gonna be able to do for me. Im looking forward to downloading all the old resident evils, final fantasies, kingdom hearts, god of wars. I am assuming you will be able to, at least eventually. Seeing how you can do it on the ps3. I guess half of my reason is i felt after having an original xbox, and an xbox 360. Its time for the switch back to the good old sony, where i feel confident in spending my money.

confident being the exact opposite of what microsoft is throwing around right now. i might get an xbox next year or something, when the dust settles.

this is true.

The Xbox One will no longer require to be online every 24 hours. And you can buy sell and trade games as much as you want.

I still preordered a PS4.
Sounds like they are scrambling to me.

So you can sell or trade used games now on the Xbox one and don't have to be connected online anymore!?!?

I guess they realized losing a possible 3/4 of the next gen market to PS4 was no fun...

Now the games really begin...

Im actually interested to see how this will now effect the polls... Also to see what percentage of those original Xboxers will now go back to MS?

that is a gorgeous fish by the way kingofkings.

Hey thanks man I miss that fish, my avatar is pretty old but his tank crashed while I was on vacation a few years ago. Luckily I had some of his fry growing out in another tank so I kept my favorite one :) His reds aren't as dark but has a ton of pearls for a red dragon. Here's a pic20130524_145055.jpg

But to get back on topic, I agree that today's announcement was a good move for xbox overall. It's just kinda surprising they actually caved in and were even able to implement such a big change this late into production. I don't have anything against Microsoft, the only consoles I've owned have been Xbox's and all my computers are running windows. It's just that as a software developer I look at things from a slightly different perspective, and Sony's hardware/strategy/price point for the ps4 beats the xbox one hands down imo. I'll probably still end up buying an xbox in a year because I'm so used to that controller and my 360 is falling apart, I was just hoping they would start moving towards open source gaming like Google. Instead they took a huge leap in the other direction and fell face first. Now they're trying to clean up the PR mess, so it's just annoying hearing their call center reps saying they confirmed something as if that's what they've been telling us all along. And the announcement coming from Don Mattrick is the most ironic part. Here's what he thought about everything last week in case u missed it a few pages back
