Scrambling is exactly what they're doing, did u see who wrote today's announcement? The same guy that said last week if you don't like the connection requirement to just buy a 360 instead? It only doesn't matter how this happened if you were going to bend over and take it either way. They aren't just doing everyone some big favor by changing their minds, removing those restrictions was the last thing they wanted to do because now they can't control the used game market (although that's only a small portion of the market they're after). There were just such overwheling cries of foul play and greed that Microsoft couldnt ignore us like they did at E3. And they're basically punishing people who preordered for all the bad reviews by removing the ability to play games without the disk in (aka physical DRM, and you can't resell downloaded games anymore so there's your digital drm). Most of us here would be connected to Live while the console is on anyways, so if anything today's announcement should be considered bad news unless you buy all of your games used or live in a 3rd world country without any internet access. Here's a quote straight from the press release:
''These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.
We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.
Thank you again for your candid feedback.''
Translation: We're tired of all your whining and complaining so you don't have to let us verify your account everyday, but now you can't play games without the disk in or resell the ones you download from us. Keep it up and we'll remove the Kinect bundle next.
