Banded Pygmy Sunfish
Elassoma zonatum

Size: 2”
pH: 6.0-8.0
Tank size: 10G/1 small group
Country of origin: United States
Diet: Live and frozen foods
Temperament: Occasionally territorial
Temperature: 50-86° F

Description

It has been quite some time since the genus Elassoma has appeared on this thread, so I figured I’d revisit it. These fish are slightly larger than the two aforementioned species, so therefore require a slightly larger tank. As for the link, it does not take you directly to where you can order these fish. Go to their fish list for details on availability.

Asian Freshwater Sole
Brachirus pan

Size: 5"
pH: 7.0-8.0
Tank size: 40G/Individual
Country of origin: India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, countries throughout the Malay Archipelago
Diet: Live and frozen foods
Temperament: Peaceful, may be bullied by larger fish
Temperature: 75-80° F
sg: 1.000-1.025

Description

Brachirus pan is a somewhat rare sole that is capable of living in conditions from full freshwater to full saltwater. Like all flatfish, including the aforementioned three species from this thread, these fish require a fine sand substrate to burrow. Harder substrates such as gravel may damage their delicate skin.

Prehistoric Monster Fish
Thalassophryne amazonica

Size: 4"
pH: 6.5-7.0
Tank size: 20G/Individual
Country of origin: Peru
Diet: Larger live foods such as feeder fish and insects. Can be weened onto frozen.
Temperament: Shy, though will eat anything that can fit in its mouth.
Temperature: 75-80° F

Description

Though most toadfish are marine, or at best, brackish-tolerant, Thalassophryne amazonica is completely freshwater. Compared to the other five known members of its genus, amazonica is the only freshwater species. You will not have to worry about salt, as this species is confined to the Amazon, and under any natural circumstances would never enter saltwater or even brackish. These fish are found throughout the middle Amazon, and are rarely seen due to their relatively small size and elusive nature. These fish are venomous, and best kept in a species-only tank.
this is quite wrong... thats a freshwater STARGAZER. don't know why called "toadfish"

You are wrong... The stargazers are a family, Uranoscopidae, of perciform fish that have eyes on top of their heads (hence the name). The family includes about 51 species (one extinct) in eight genera, all marine and found worldwide in shallow and deep saltwaters .This (thalasophryne)is freshwater species from South America.

yeah... after some indepth research, i've come to the conclusion of that those are strangely shaped toadfishes...Quite cool though
