Description
Though most toadfish are marine, or at best, brackish-tolerant, Thalassophryne amazonica is completely freshwater. Compared to the other five known members of its genus, amazonica is the only freshwater species. You will not have to worry about salt, as this species is confined to the Amazon, and under any natural circumstances would never enter saltwater or even brackish. These fish are found throughout the middle Amazon, and are rarely seen due to their relatively small size and elusive nature. These fish are venomous, and best kept in a species-only tank.
You are wrong... The stargazers are a family, Uranoscopidae, of perciform fish that have eyes on top of their heads (hence the name). The family includes about 51 species (one extinct) in eight genera, all marine and found worldwide in shallow and deep saltwaters .This (thalasophryne)is freshwater species from South America.this is quite wrong... thats a freshwater STARGAZER. don't know why called "toadfish"
