YA!! Finally got my retics!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One thing that helps with rays (at least young ones) is using a pipette or turkey baster to target feed. It allows you to squirt food right in front of their face, allowing them to get to it before anyone else in the knows its there. made feeding my retic's much easier. Works really well for live blackworms and frozen foods, but not so well for earthworms or large chunks of shrimp/fish.

One of those rays is a P. hystrix.

Very nice, and love the arowana!

Which pic is the hystrix in?

#7, #8, and #9. Potamotrygon Hystrix is a wonderful ray to have! I'm very jealous. I've got 14 rays, and I definitely would just love to have one of those little guys. Lucky catch! Whoever sold you / gave you a P. Hystrix and told you that it was a P. Reticulata did not do it on purpose. P. Hystrix is usually a fair bit more expensive, and is usually a hardier ray out-of-the-bag (due to handling conditions, I believe).

Very lucky, indeed! Love the rays. When you get time, post some more pics of them!

Are they eating yet?

Thats a retic not a hystrix.

Deffinatly no hystrix in them sry but great looking retics. They look healthy so far

Pics 7,8,9 is pics of the male who is lighter
Pics 6 is the female wih the bent tail, that recently has fallen off

The female is darker with a smaller but more wide spread pattern
The male has a bigger pattern but does not spread out as much

Will her tail ever grow back to full length?
If one does happen to be a hystrix, can they still breed?
I was originally told $40-$60 each, but the final price came out to be $140 for both. Is it possible that he slipped a hystrix on me? I asked him to get me 2 retic and it took him about 2 months to get them. He kept giving me an excuse for not having them. It would explan alot if he had difficulty locating a pair of retic and just got me whatever he could get his hands on and charged me more?

Tail probably wont grow back fully, but it'll heal in no time in clean water. A retic and hystrix can breed but you have 2 retics so you dont need to worry about that. Retics are one of the most common rays around, I can't think of a reason why he would have trouble getting them.
