  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks didn't think of that, I tried it and he just dosent seem to like vegitables at all. Would there be anything wrong with just feeding him algae wafers and massivore mainly.

Ha ha, I laughed when I read about carrots. If he gets big enough, you can just toss a whole carrot in the tank.

Speaking of algae wafers I use this brand because I can buy them in 6 pound buckets

I feed my pacu algae wafers exclusively. Feeding other things just fouls the water. On the rare occasions the fish are fed other things, it's more for entertainment for us or our guests. We needed sinking pellets, as floating food gets in the overflow boxes. If anyone is using NLS jumbo sinking pellets (10mm) I have quite a bit to unload. Two 3 pound buckets, and almost a full bucket. I hate the stuff--it stinks, turns the water red, turns the filter cartridges red. We happen to be vegans, and that fishy odor is more than we can deal with in our home. If anyone uses the stuff and wants more, PM me.

Our pacu liked slices of potato. Here's really old video probably taken in 2006. Notice all the potato debris from the mess the pacu make. It is very entertaining to watch them eat. BTW, those yellow belly pacu are beautiful.

he looks good.. make sure you give him some algae wafers too

Got him some of these he seems to like them more than massivore. I might get the 2.2 lb bag or get those cobalt aquatics ones, not sure what to get yet.

ha ha! Years ago I stopped feeding them almonds. They just inhale (swallow) whole almonds and don't even bother chewing. I was afraid the almonds might foul up my mechanical filtration after they passed through the pacu.

That is crazy... did you ever finish your build?

No, the artist who is/was going to paint our backgrounds is critically ill. Right now, I'm just hoping that she lives. Stuff like this puts things in perspective. She waited 2 1/2 years for us to get the prepared backgrounds to her, now we wait. The backgrounds and pipes have completely taken over her garage since May (her car has to park outside) I preferred leaving everything there in the hopes that she will get well enough to do the painting. Just before we took the panels to her house, we fitted them in the tank. These were the last three panels. We decided to have backgrounds on the sides in the hopes that they will prevent the pacu from slamming into the sides of the tank. There will be nothing to prevent them from continuing to slam into the tank lids. :( The bigger they get, the harder they slam into things, and even more water gets displaced.

I bought 3. They don't bother other fish much, killed a couple newcomers, just each other. They are a bio load nightmare I only have a 6x3. My biggest issues is feeding. They will eat a ton of wafers and still eat a lot of other fish cichlid pellets. I want to see if they stop at 18. Every day I wonder if I should stick it out or get rid of them. Today I'm thinking of replacing them with some Myles widebar
