I'm going to assume you weren't talking to me when you said I was a lier but I agree it's unlikely a yellow bullhead got to be 18" in a 20 gallon tank or any tank for that matter. I wonder if the ages on the links you provided are wild fish or captive fish? Cardinals only live to be a little over a year in the wild, five years plus in captivity. Some people do have problems measuring their own fish, particularly when they catch them on hook and line. Maybe fish in a tank inspire the same artistic license:naughty:

Oh sorry, i was completely talking about warf.

And although there may be some variance between wild and captive life spans in smaller fish (with the constant threat of being eaten, having to avoid predators all their life and variable currents and other factors) Slightly larger fish like bullheads i haven't heard reports of much difference in life span wild vs. captive.

Either way i'm guessing the kid that started the thread is lying.

LMAO!!! I love these threads. I think it is threads like these that help get me through the day sometimes!!! Started him in a jar and then moved him to a 20 Gallon where he lasted 7 years and hit 18"s ... LOL LOL!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm, for some reason my entire post did not show up. I can imagine it now. The little baby bullhead started out in a jar without even an airstone. When he was big enough where is head touched his tail you moved him into the 20 Gal. Without any water changes and way under filtered he got to a world record length of 18". He was happy and cozy in his little murked up 20 Gallon. It is a cute story man.

ANyway. It is very rare for a bullhead to get over 12" (at least in the wild).... Also I don't think 7 years is accurate. I would think they could live 15-20 but thats just my opinion. ( I am certain about thew length though)
