Hey everyone!

I have a 3-inch yellow lab alone in a 29G and I have three .75-inch yellow labs in a 10G when can I move the 3 of them into the 29? the 3-inch is a male and the other 3 are 1 female and 2 male. When should I put them together or should I?

I would not keep yellow labs in a 30" tank.

I understand, for some reason, I have heard so many mixed reviews of what can and can't be kept together in a tank. I have heard of people, especially the big-name YouTubers like KG tropicals on youtube saying that anyone can keep around 10 cichlids in a 29 gallon. I understand you wouldn't but with everything going on right now, I don't have much of a choice. With what I've got do you think you can help me?

There is no guarantee the larger lab won't eat the smaller fish but if that is your only choice, just make sure there are enough hiding spaces for the smaller fish.

Also, there is no way to sex those fish at that size.

Are you planning on getting a larger tank soon?

would i be wrong to assume that the two smaller ones that are bright yellow are male in contrast to the other smaller one which is white to be a female? I assumed the 29G would be enough for the four of them, if not I can reconsider my tanks!

Males and females look identical. Labidochromis caeruleus should not be white.

I would put them in a 36" tank if you have one instead of the 30" tank. I would also keep them separate, but put the adult in the 10G and the three juveniles in the 29G to grow them out to 1.5". Usually the ideal is for juveniles to be 1.5" when added to an adult tank.

I did have a large flock of juvenile haps get killed/eaten within 24 hours when I added them to an adult tank on the theory that large fish ignore small fish...it did not work for me.

Thanks for the advice, Ill look more into it! Why do the youtubers such as KG tropicals say you can fit around 30 cichlids in a 60G or 15 cichlids in a 30G? I'll attach a link to the video for more information! please let me know!

To each his own.

I like to give the fish room to show as much natural behavior as possible. Also when recommending actions to others, it's good to provide the highest odds of success. It does not mean only one fishkeeper's way will work or only one person's ideal will work.

I stock my tank heavy with Africans. I wouldn’t even begin to think about trying to cram 75 fish into my 150.
