smelts are way too oily for my liking. i do like the anchovies that was first posted. great stuff and it doesn't make a mess.

Frozen Feeder Fish, 3”- 4”
individually frozen - not blocks
(11 LBS. case)

Thanks, what kind of feeders are they? Smelt, other, or assorted?
What's individually frozen - not blocks mean?
Do some people actually put a bunch of feeder's in a container, top it off with water, freeze, then sell,(in blocks) to get more water weight?

I saw then in the supermarket yesterday...i held the packing in my hand and put it back..and my fingers smelt like as if i have stick my finger into my dog's arse and pull out again!!!

how was that aroma??? i haven't done that YET!!!!
i tried rock cod, and not one of my fish even went near it, and it oiled up my tank pretty good. sand eels seem to be a great feed though, look like silversides but much skinnier.
catfish nuggets--- i was going to buy a pound for like $.99, but, it came from China, and i'm not risking it on my azuls, with all the chem-china news going around. anybody have thoughts on that?
squid seems to be a favorite as well.

gona try that then :naughty: :D

I started using smelt recently and don't think they smell, hardly. Just normal fishy smell not even as strong as shrimp. Seem's to work great:thumbsup: and my fish love them, I cut the little bit of tail off and chop each smelt into two or three pieces depending on who I'm feeding. Give em a try.

Wow smelts smell absolutely horrendous. I went to every Asian grocery store as well as normal grocery store with no luck. My bigger fish seems to like them, but they do make a mess since it's the 6" smelts and I gotta cut them up into a few pieces. I will have to suck it up until I can find a better alternative. Will probably try baby cuttlefish and squid next though.
