I wonder what would have happened if he didn't have the certificates and just said they were a different breed.
Wildlife service officers aren't stupid you know. Theres no way they would fall for that. Not to mention you would get yourself in even deeper trouble without the certificates.

^ wow thats ridiculous!

I guess I'm the only one who is glad that justice is served. He knew what he was risking when he attempted it and got what he had coming. These laws are there for a reason.
I totally agree with u. It may seem steep and harsh of a punishment but who knows how long he has been doing it. Sadly it's the fish the pay the final price in all of this.

And everyone keeps referring to the maximum sentence. He likely won't receive near the max sentence unless he has a big history of being caught for the same activity.

I don't feel sorry for him. I can assure you that he was quite aware of the possible ramifications, and he chose to take the chance.

His first mistake was shipping them with his regular fish shipments. I'm sure customs agents are well aware of Aros and keep a sharp lookout for live fish shipments from overseas. If he smuggled one or two at a time with something else like furniture or soft drinks it would draw less scrutiny.

Not that I know anything about smuggling....... :uhoh:

I don't think furniture or soft drinks are normally shipped by air and in a warm cargo area (which you would need for live fish) so a package like this would probably draw even more suspicion and scrutiny from custom's officials.

BTW, if you are bringing live fish on an international flight, you have to clear that with the airlines in advance and also during check in. Customs will later ask for an inventory list and open your box for inspection upon arrival, so potential smugglers beware!

You are likely to be caught red faced and red handed...

Any one happy he got caught is a little of there rocker. It's a fellow hobbyist.

Maybe we should all stick together? And him being caught cant help the chances were ever allowed to have them. (in the US) jmo

Clearly, this is no hobbyist...

10 arowanas smuggled in and he's in the fish business?

The fish were obviously for resale and this probably wasn't his first attempt.

Guilty as charged!

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time :naughty:

Who the hell cares. Its just a god damn fish. People take @#$% too seriously. Screw the US for not allowing imports, everyone and everywhere else allow them.

This guy isn't going to Asia and plucking them from the wild, its off a freaking farm. If anyone should get punished its this so called democracy of a government. I don't remember voting off Asian Aros.

F OFF GOVT.
