OK, For those of you that might have noticed, There seems to be a huge number of new RTC "kittens" around the last few days... And like many of you out there... I happened to get one today.

Here's the Story, I went into the LFS and was showing my 1yr old all the "fishies". I was actually looking for a Pleco that I could put in the 270 as it should be set up this week in the garage. They had only 3 types and 2 of those were Micro sized... less than an inch long... i'd lose it in the filter!! and 1 that was like $100... AWSOME loooking fish though ...but out of the budget for a Pleco as I was really just looking for a common or a royal (which was one of the micro sized... I think I'll wait till they grow up abit)

Anyway Tank after tank and I come across a tank with a label on it for a "Sun CatFish" so I'm looking through this very over stocked tank to see this "Sun Cat" and I see a little wisker sticking out from under a piece of drift wood in the tank...I ask the lady working the isle if she can show me the "Sun cat fish" she comes over and lifts out the drift wood and there is who I have nick named "Buster!" a little 3 1/2 to 4 inch RTC with a Snow White tail...I'm thinking that she was going to say ... I'm not sure where it is (the Sun Cat) but instead she says ... There he is...I said "Wow" are you sure it's a "Sun Cat Fish" knowing that a sun looks like this

and I saw this cute little RTC just sitting there looking alittle peaved that his hiding place was just stolen from him. The Sales Woman tells me "Yep" thats what it is...I said "Is that price on the Tank for this one, cause he's kinda not a normal looking Sun Cat?" she says ... I'll knock of the tax and 25% if you want him, I'm not real familar with this type of Cat"... Knowing that the RTC was a Steal at $20 to begin with ... who could say no to $15 :D

So now he's chillin in the quarentine tank with some possible feeders... I know they are all free of any type of problems as I've had them for ALONG time... ;) another good thing about the RTC is he'll take care of them for me

Only Problem is ... he doesn't seem to be aclimating very well as it's been like 9 hrs in that tank and he's been pouting in the corner since he's been in there... I'm thinking that I'll leave him be tonight and count the feeders in the morning ... how long should I wait with him before I start trying to stuff some Blood worms down his throat with a dropper as was already suggested. His belly seems full so I guess he's been eating well ... maybe took out something in the tank at the LFS :grinyes:

Any suggestions would be welcome... as long as it's not Get a bigger tank ... He'll be perfectly happy in the 270 for some time I'm sure... and when he's not ... I'll build him a big pond one in the garage ... don't put the cars in there... might as well use it for something

:chillpill:9 hours isnt alot of time. Let the fish feel comfortable with its new water parameters and its new scenery. stuffing bloodworms down its throat with a dropper is a great way to stress the fish, which will keep it hiding in the corner. Just monitor the fish, and the feeders, and wait until the rtc starts eating on his own. When it starts eating on its own, give it a full belly and move it out of the quarantine tank to the other tank so it can acclimate to its new tank, with a full belly it should be relatively happy

? You are saying 18 months+ the way that is written (fyi)
a 270 will hold an RTC for longer than 18 months IMPO. And why would you laugh at him? Do you have a 270 just laying around?

Oh I know ... I'm not pushing him at all ... he seems to be co-operating now... chased a few feeders for a couple of inches when they got to close and tried to nibble on his tail...

I wasn't really worried about him eating .. was just a thought to keep in mind as I really don't want to have to long of a period pass before getting some food in the belly as his life over the next couple of weeks will be kinda crazy... going from quarentine ... to a 50 gallon... for up to 2 weeks while the 270 finishes it's cycling and then into that thing...

Anyway ... enough rambing ... I just checked up on him and he's starting to move around the tank well now... used my cell phone to try to light him up...he seemed to freak alittle with that... but at least I know he's moving around getting used to the new "digs"

Would love pics of this "snow white tail"

As soon as I get him out from under the intake of the filter and a clear shot I will try to get one... It's really weird cause I've been looking online all day to find one like it and I can't find one... I'm thinking it's that he's just not been getting a proper diet and he needs more varitey in his diet. somebody somewhere mentioned that crustations will bring out his color... that will be a good experiment when he moves into the big tank ... I'll find some small crab of some sort and get those in there for him to hunt...

Bass - get him on some prepared shrimps - that'll do the trick - but if it's a color variation that would be awesome as well.
