Yet ANOTHER RTC - Whats happening???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no worries mate im sure that he will be fine. RTCs can survive without food for days and days...plus the shop probably fed him well before u purchased him...i would go for frozen food immediately...saves u sum cash and will give u an easier time in the future wen he starts eating away at ure paycheck...frozen food like shrimp...fish meat...anything meaty is good. :) plus there is an extremely low risk of disease with frozen food mate.

Thanks ... I know he'll be just fine... Thanks for the advice.. I'll keep that in mind but right now I think I'll be waiting for him to settle in before deciding to try to change that part of his life... I don't think i can find frozen uncooked shrimp small enough for him right now LOL ... he's still just a midget... a few feeders will help that out though ;)

wen my RTC was that tiny i fed him any pellet food. thats the best substitute for feeders...and he absolutely loved it...the nutrients in hikari massivore pellets are mad...they grow like beans.

I see a lot of RTC's at around 2 to 3" or so and most of them start out with a VERY white tail. That changes slowly to a dusty brown until the red sets in.

Baby RTC's all love having a hiding place and are far more active after the lights are turned off.

One last thing...RTC's do in fact grow fast but outgrowing a 270 gallon tank in 18 months? Never going to happen. The growth rate slows WAY down after they hit 18" or so so you're looking at more like 3 years before you'll need larger digs...

? You are saying 18 months+ the way that is written (fyi)
a 270 will hold an RTC for longer than 18 months IMPO. And why would you laugh at him? Do you have a 270 just laying around?
I dont know about you but 'Quite some time' in my books is a lengthy period over 3+ years.
I was also not laughing directly at him, but more or less making a minor joke.:chillpill: My apologies.

Yeah I'm aware of the hiding and lights out... he's been in the dark for some time now and is deffinetly aclimating better now that his confidence is up... I noticed when I lite him up with the blue from my cell phone light that he actually hasa little tiny dot on his left side of the tail...only cause my phone lights stuff up like a blacklight so it showed me that he's just developing his color... kinda disapointing but what can you do ... he's still my little "Buster!"

I'm going to start a log for him once he gets better adjusted I'll try to take some messurements get some stats on a regular basis... length.. weight .. girth (if he'll allow it)...

it's all good ... not like I'm pulling out the signs on you :banhim: :grinno:

Quite some time in Monster Fish terms is messured in months ... not years... thought you'd know better Mystix LOL

Seriously though I mean we are talking about a fish that will most likley be around the 18 inch mark by the end of the first year and prob around the 30 inch mark by it's second birthday... so 2 years is prob around the MAX I'd be willing to keep him in the 270 as it's only 6 feet long and he'll be almost half that
