Take it easy:). 2 days its still a very short period of time and just because you dont see it doesant mean he´s not there. Maybe he´s hiding or just move to a diferent spot in it´s territory. Just keep an eye on it. The ideal is to get up early in the morning of a sunny day,get your binnoculars and wait. Here there are spots were Im 100% certain that there are lizards living there, but even then I dont see them every day. Also remenbar that herps are absolute masters of remanin unseen:D

i live in florida and in some parts water monitors are a big problem. they can easily crawl up into peoples' back yards and eat their pets. my friends dog got eaten by one and i've seen them myself. if you go outside near them though, chances are that they will run away. But If you back them into a corner you have a good chance of getting whipped or bit, and their tails can break bones.
They are wild animals just tring to survive. Even if there wasnt monitors why would someone leave a small and vulnerable dog alone in say a patio. In that cir****ances if we think about it just about anithing can happen. From hawks to racoons, many animals can easily take down a small dog. Now for them being agressive, have you been able to pet your neigbors cat or even dog lately? well if you have, Im not ,they hate me with a passion. Any animal can be agressive if cornered. What must remain at all costs is comon sense. Dont mess with the monitors, keep your food and small pets secure and I can assure you they will be just like any other animal:)

LOL, if anyone wants, they are invited to my house to help me keep an eye out. We can set up a blind and everything LOL

Cool I'm on my way...we can have a stakeout :)

Dude, I want a free monitor!!! I'd get a nice, tasty, uncooked steak and place it outside of the den. The dogs would make tempting bait too, just be quick with the leash. Or you could capture a squirrel, make a small collar and leash, anchor said leash into ground in canal, sit and wait to see the fur flying.

Just think.....What Would Steve Irwin Do?
