Badass, i would be looking for it all the time.

I think this monitor is the least of a dog owners worry, seeing how there are much larger native threats in the water.

so you don't think monitors will attack a dog?

thanks, good to know :)

i would try to get a trap set up. get like those ones that exterminators use to catch skunks only wayyy bigger and just throw a steak in there and wait. then take it and if you dont wanna keep it, call a zoo and see if they can take it and if not im sure theres an mfker or someone on snakebytestv.ning.com that would take it for you. i would but you probably can't ship it and im in MA so ...

hey, y'all remember this thread?

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138991

well, so no one can say i was bs-ing, this time i have pics! My brother was able to snap one before the beast went back into its cave :D:D:D

btw, i was stupid enough to head over, and judging by the size of the hole and the size of the lizard, is was definitely over 5', maybe close to 6!

so...what species is it? :grinno:

Amazing pic thanks. Your brother is fast because if you get even close they take off.
Best non native pic I have seen. Do you see him often?
I love non natives :). Makes Miami neat

unfortunately, it seems the neighbor scared him off :(

haven't seen him since the picture was taken

Why do you think it wouldn’t eat a small dog?

They are opportunistic eaters… meaning they will eat just about anything they have the opportunity to.

I understand they will (per instinct) primarily hunt the waters and shoreline, but many backyards will butt up to the canal it claims as it’s territory, and I’m sure several of those yards have dogs in them.

In my experience, small dogs have more balls than brains… and if they are used to the alligators that move slower than this monitor and are far less likely to chase the dog… Then the dogs are likely to under estimate the monitor and put themselves in a bad position…

I think it would be an awesome sight to see… but not something I’d want to deal with living in my back yard.

If you invite one of these members over to catch it, let me know. That would be worth flying down to watch…
