You Be The Judge?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with Dreamsofpeace54. It's your tank. The castles look neat, very different. But we are not the ones that look at it everyday. Both tanks setups give your fish places to hide and rest. After all, that is the what we are shooting for. In the end, it's up to you. I like them both.

Any suggestions on methods of sinking driftwood?

you can boil you driftwood or you can let it soaking for a couple of weeks..eventualy it will absrob watter and sink.

nice set up..i enjoy seeing a very natural tank always..and with a sand substrat it will look more natural..but remember.. its your tank and the only judge it's you.

i like natural look better, but would go with sand. You have an interesting choice of fish, any problems with the compressiceps and loaches?

Thanks for all the feedback!!! I realize that it is my choice but I'm interested in changing it up from time to time. I truly enjoy hearing other opinions on a regular basis.

As for the loaches and the compressiceps I haven't had any problems. The loaches have doubled in size since I purchased them and they don't have a mark on them yet. Initially I had two bala sharks and the compressiceps was all over them until I moved them out. I will say that the new tank has caused some behavioral change. My peacocks are constantly in battle for position and territory. They weren't like that with the castle set up.

Will I have problems with the loaches and the compressiceps?

any problems with the wood? as far as i know, the wood drops pH and you want it to be higher with african cichlids. correct me if i'm wrong.

that's why many keep differnt types of rock and fossilized coral to help buffer pH.

when my africans got bigger, they slaughtered two loaches. Also, compreccicepts (spelling, I know) is a tanganykan cichlid. They tend to be less agressive than the malawis you have in there. Those are the only problems I foresee. Then again, the loaches do have those mean switchblades under their eyes

you are correct, wood leeches tannins into the water that lowers pH. Perfect for SA cichlids. Crushed coral and rocks both buffer and raise pH

wrong type of compressicep... this is D.comp not A. comp...

I have had someone tell me I am wrong, but I still believe that if the wood does not have tannins left it will not effect the ph... Tannins is what causes the water to change colors...

thats nice wood id put one more in there, im digging the natural look
