most gnarly part about that cowspiracy docu is that you get to see a live duck get it's head chopped off

Palm oil and soy beans, destroying the rainforest, that is a small drop in the ocen compared to the destruction caused by cow farming in the rainforest. But as I mentioned the US alone has enough agricultural space that if they were all converted to soy bean, palm oil or fruit and vegetable fields, could feed the entire USA, and then some. No more relying on foreign markets. Would this not solve the rainforest situation?
It's like most things, man has the opportunity to do great things, but they mess it up.
I know I'm going against the grain, and maybe there's a way to compromise on a solution, but from what iv seen and read, the quickest, and easiest is a vegan lifestyle. Is so easy that anyone can do it.
The fact that so many here are OK with the path we are heading down, and that the only solution is for mankind to kill ourselves or our planet really speaks volumes about the state of the world. I don't have all the answers, but I want to give it a shot, and if it fails, or according to predator as he is a psychic and is better at predicting the future than me, when it fails I can say I tried.
It may take a while to get it right, but we as a species, owe it to ourselves and our home to try.
And all these comments about me being holier than thou, or on my high horse, well with this company its hard not to feel like I'm better than you for wanting to live and thrive with the world instead of accepting our fate that we created for ourselves like a coward.
The fact is I love the world and all the species that inhabit it, and I just want to save them all, but at this rate, with people like you, there won't be anything left to save

Been hearing this all my life. I'm 49 right now. I've never been 'holier then you' to go around telling people what to eat.

Honestly, I feel the urge to eat some meaty food everytime I click on this thread

Can I suggest you stop clicking on this thread then? You don't like what I'm saying, that's your decision, I think your incapable of seeing not what I'm saying, but why I am saying it. You may not agree with what I'm saying, but can you not see the point I am trying to make, albeit maybe not in the best way, I'm trying to make a difference, and if that difference is you stuff more food down your throat then that's unfortunate for both of us.

With the way the world is now, with all the efforts to go green, people are producing very little methane, and the earth is capable of dealing with this, its not capable of dealing with the millions of tons pumped into our atmosphere because of farm animals.

Hello; It has been my understanding for some time that the largest producer of atmospheric methane is termites. Cows and other ungulates also produce methane but you appear to be stretching the point beyond it's reasonable limits. By the way some of those cow like methane producers are in fact wild animals.

Another point you hammer is that people are not meant to eat meat. My information may be out of date as I have not been in a classroom for over ten years, so please provide some references. In my comparative anatomy lessons animals were generally classified into three types. Carnivores -such as cats with a relatively short digestive tract, cutting teeth and a digestive system efficient at digesting meat proteins. By the way it is my understanding that carnivores often eat the prey's stomach and it's contents so as to get some vegan. Herbivores - with a very long digestive tract, chopping and grinding teeth, some special adaptations such as a gut bacteria to help digest cellulose. It is also my understanding that herbivores take animal protein, such as insects. The last are the omnivores (us humans) - With a digestive tract that is much a compromise between the other two. A middle length with some capacity for digesting vegetable and meat. We have teeth that are not as good at either cutting or grinding, but do an OK job. One of the things that was instructive for me was the need for children to get some animal protein for proper brain cell development. Is this still valid?

Cows and mass produced farm animals produce more methane than all fossil fuels combined. I'm not sure in the termites, but a study recently found that farm animals produce over half if all methane.
I think people are misunderstanding me, we as a species can eat meat, but its not necessary, so why do it? There's never been any evidence to suggest a vegan diet negatively effects child brain development, and this is also true of children born to began mother's.no I'll effects to speak of.

Hello; This was not my understanding some years ago. Nutrition science, as does all good science, changes as new facts are discovered. If the current evidence does not indicate the need for animal protein for brain cell development, that could be an improvement in the understanding of nutrition. However animal protein was once thought to be needed. As I cannot back that up with more than a memory, it does not count for much. As I recall eggs and fish were considered ok in a vegetarian diet. I do seem to recall that beans and rice together were considered to have enough of the essential amino acids as a subsitute for meat protein.
