there is no crying just venting. i was asking a question, not taking it personal. if i try something and it doesnt work i am not going to laugh at some one else that tries it. i would advise them it didn't work for me under a certain situation and that the may want to try it a different way, but not laugh at them. if someone doesn't like me or the way i do things they don't have to post anything or even talk to me it doesn't affect me either way. to ridicule someone for trying is pathetic, everything is possible just depends on several factor like fish personality.
Ahh well, if theres one thing i've learned throughout life, its that there are way more idiots in this world than there are good people, and this is another prime example. Guess the hope is the knowledge of the good outweighs the stupidity of the bad. Sometimes i think its a fools hope, but i hope nontheless. Its knowledge gained about these awesome fish, and an unfortunate loss, but try to look at it like knowledge learned that all can benefit from. and its ok to wish for bad things to happen to idiots that open their mouths and let the SH*T pour out!! Sorry for the loss man

I have to chuckle at some of the responses. If some noob said he was raising a shoal of pacus in a 125 and hoped to develop a shoal, I do believe he would have heard no end to it...somehow subbing a shoal of GATF makes it all okay.

Well I hardly think the guy deserves to be shot for experimenting. Someone said that not much is known about them. Quite frankly, if everyone ripped Edison and Franklin apart for experimenting with something that wasn't well known, would we be where we are today? Just a thought...

thanks, some people just think they are right all the time and no one else can try anything they think is wrong.
if the pacus were less then 8" each no i dont think they would have because i have seen that exact thing done. those pacu later went into a pond and have been fine ever since. 3 8" fish is not over crowded in a 125gal. if you think it is then post pics of your 500gal with your single goldfish. a lot of pred/aggressive fish need closer setups so they cant set up a territory. but i am done with you as you know all and we are all wrong all the time.

Fish are not like humans and don't have the brain capacity to develop personalities...they act on instinct only!
It cracks me up when people think they are animal pyschologists and can figure out what their fish are thinking...lol!
Sbuse, you were foolish enough to leave the fish together long enough for one to kill the other...not that big a deal now that they only cost about $100 but when I tried it 6 years ago the fish were going for 6 times that price. I made sure to pay better attention to what was going on in the tank and ended my trial quickly without any dead fish...it seems that you were not so wise.
Anyways, a lot of other people have tried this out and have written many posts about it, so don't be so pissed that people come on here to laugh about your misfortune...you were forewarned.
It should be pretty clear that these are not schooling fish, and no matter what you think their "personalities" may be, you will be wrong.
i watch them daily for 6-7 hours. if they do not have personality then how can you have some gars be able to be mixed with some fish and others of the same sp. not? others have stronger instincts? i know fish get only food, live and sex, but they have differences in how they go about it.
foolish enough to leave them together long enough, i'll give you that because i had my gut tell me to move them and i couldn't sell them for $70 after i paid $150 for them. thats what i was offered by a few lfs around here. i was not going to put them on craigslist and i was looking for the best way to ship them so they didn't die in transit before i put them up for sale here. foolish, but with strong reasoning behind it. alot of people around me will spend alot of money on fish just to say "i have a fish worth this much" they dont know anything about it, but they will do it. so i save my fish from that. just happened that i ran out of time.
i was pissed at myself and just because a lot of people post it didn't work for me doesn't me i can't try. it also gives no one the right to laugh at it when it fails. site aros and gars, many have posted their fails with them, but they work for me. i dont think there are fish psychologists that is dumb, but fish do act differently from others in the same sp. so you can't say they are all 100% the same as you are.
Why didn't you just make a $10 tank divider to save yourself the grief?
I doubt you know much about aros either...aren't you the genius who suggested that the best way to move aros or other big fish is with a wet towel?
Ever consider a large plastic bag instead?
i did make divider but they got around them. i never have dividers that work.
as for aro knowledge i must not know anything since i wrote some of the stickes and have years of exp raising them from eggsacks and up. i didn't say it was the best way i say it could work after some one else brought it up. i use a wet towel for large gars were a bag wont work and a wet towel is the best way. they then go into a cooler, you must have some thick bags where you are because no bags around here stops those gars teeth. you seem to cocky for your own good. you don't know everything either so don't act like you do i know more about aros then you do.
