Get a roller shade made with a Solar Screen Fabric mounted over your Patio door. Your wife will be able to see the view during the day and the UV will be cut 95%.
Thanks for that link Chester , I'll look into that, very cool and cheap.
This is the only shot I could find with the full view of the dining room back when I had the 220g in there. (old shot).. Slider on the left, window in back and to the right although the window in the back does not put direct sunlight on the tank. The 125g is on the wall on the right in this pic and the 220g is in the garage.
You can see on the floor, depending on time of day, it is GOING to get hit from one angle or another.
yep.. yer house is better than mine... but atleast i dont have algae in my tanks
i found some pics of what the little UV i posted is capable of cleaning up
they are huge so heres some links
the full sun + the heat are the reason the water looks like this
with the UV the tank is super clear.. however i dont have a pic of it that i can find and im lazy so im not going to take more
get 2 bristlenose plecos and you'll have clean t ank in less then 24 hours
i had problem with algae and these guys helped me a lot + i got uv filter now
well since he has a ray id assume he wants to steer away from plecos or a flagtail (even if it did work) and try to find the right UV setup like asked, and damn Justin you were right... a tank did look naughty right there.

I wouldn't have started this thread is a bristlenose pleco would help. I have one already and its a waste of tank space. This tank gets pampered with food for bottom dwellers so he could care less about hard green algae he has to work at. I am going to give the UV Chester sent to link on a try and see where it takes me. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Maybe I'll luck out and we'll get and "algae of the month" thread going...

Yeah I have been watching the bristlenose close and it has zero interest in the retic. The ray only has a few months in this tank anyway. Just putting some weight on her and she is going in the garage.

Have you thought about trying to out compete the algae with live plants?
You said your ray is going to be rehomed in a few months, it may be something to consider.
