Installing black sand in my tanks , considering painting the back and sides black . What is your experience with painting the tanks black . What is the best paint brand ? The blackest black ? Wondering also how a custom mix of black with a bit of navy blue in for a midnight blue/black (like blue/black hair )? Tank will house frontosa, Red empress and blue dolphins. Thanks. Tanks will be inplace and upright in position since i cant lift them to turn on side, any problem using a paint roller on a upright tank ?
Thanks CG

nice! i cant wait to see the outcome of the black and blue sand! ive never seen it done before.

Im going to do a experiment first since im too chicken to try a unproven method or style. Im gonna get blue/black metallic paint and at the craft store get a sponge for doing custom wall painting (that splotchy method when you use two colors) splotch on thin highlights of the metallic blue/black (midnight blue) then when tacky dry rollor on the blackest black paint i can find, it should go good with the black sand. Im gonna get some cheap glass picture frames at the dollar store and test it first (i have silcone so im gonna make a glass box to photograph it with water or might beable to hold it against my filled tank and take a pic. Will post examples when im done. going to the store in about an hour so any feed back on type or brand of paint that works good before i leave would be great.

you can go to petco or petsmart and get some small bags of the colored reptile sand. I think they come in white, black, orange, red, blue, green, purple, etc..... cant think of the others. just use what you want to see how the mix looks and place back in bag and return say it didnt work out, LoL.

Looks great. I bought a couple things, some metalic accent colors, flat black and flat black/with hint of purple. Also some fine glitter in colors. Im gonna try some different things. will post pics of examples tomorrow or late tonight if i cant sleep again. I have got to get this insomnia under contrrol

black sand an a 3-d back ground for my 30.

Ok, i did the test panels and mounted them to the outside of my tank to take some pics. I like both and am not sure which one is most suited . I did two of each type: solid black and solid purple/black and also metallic highlights with solid background. These pics are all of the metallic highlight ones. I will post the solid ones in the next post.

Keep in mind when you look at it that the tank will have pure plack sand not the mixed gravel there now. I did two colors of this version a purple /black and a turquise blue/black.
