Young male Diablo Bifasciatus Looking for Help Naming him

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Isn't this a result of crossing two seperate, distinctly different, collection points? Is so, I would go with Bidevil.
I'm not a pro here so pls do correct me if I'm wrong, but if you cross a vieja biffa from one location with another vieja biffa from another location wouldn't they still be a vieja biffa ? Just seen a lot of this back n forth goin on I'm just wondering what is the big deal. No mean to offend anyone either just curious

You are quite right, mixing two locations does not equate to a hybrid.
The trouble is mixing pure fish from two locations for a specific trait like colour or high fins or whatever is changing the original form of the fish. Then these breeders create some daft name and sell them on as diablo biffas. Then hobbyists breed them and spread them around and it clouds the hobby of genuine type species.
With all the hybrids and colour strains it's hard to find the real deal.
It can be hard to buy a veija and know if its hybrid or a genuine species. These types of breeding programmes just add feul to the fire.

I think "Man-made Intergrade" would be the best technical term

Best way I can explain it is again, using the "Gulf Hammock" ratsnake for an example - This intergrade occurs where 2 races of Eastern Ratsnake's natural ranges overlap and they breed w/ each other - the Yellow Ratsnake and the Grey Ratsnake. This natural intergrade occurs in an area of western panhandle Florida and extreme S. Louisiana and Alabama along the Gulf coast referred to as "The Gulf Hammock.

It is not a different species, it is not a hybrid - it is a natural occurring intergrade population which has existed for millions(?) of years.

The greatest risk in crossing species from different locations is any potential unique evolutionary history, and possibly unique behavioural traits, are in an instant lost forever. Genetically speaking these fish could be different/unique from each other. In fact, in many cases over the years new species have been described, from what was once a large group of fish all lumped together under the same genus, or species. It's a slippery slope.....

my god lol...every time I see "diablo" in a thread title I get PTSD now...but I still cant help but read through the entire pissing match that happens in every single thread lol.
