My neighbors have three dogs all outside IN town. They used to be inside but for some reason they have not seen the inside of the house for months. They do however have free roam of this outside kenel that is atached to thier garage. so they can get inside. But they bark ALL the time.

My dog stays inside. and he's about the size of two of the neighbors dogs. lol

What a cute pup.. Mixed? He/she has odd tongue coloring to be a pure... I wish I could get some good pictures of our old male pure black GSD when he was young.

sled dogs may be kept outside, but they get lots of exercise-which every dog needs whether it is big or small, and its daily companionship and interaction with humans.

this is a pet peeve of mine-we have a few ppl in our neighborhood who have chained dogs.. to a doghouse all the way in the back of the yard. they get maybe.. maybe 5 whole minutes of interaction with a human a day.

dogs need to be part of a pack.. a family. they are miserable otherwise and lonely. i never understood why ppl buy dogs just to plant them in the backyard for the rest of their miserable lives.

i dont humanize dogs-they are dogs after all lol. but i believe they need to belong to a family and feel loved and not discarded and forgotten. just like i believe every dog needs exercise daily (my yorkie and i walk a mile a day), discipline,, and then love-and in that order.

Yep... It is just wrong to have a dog if you are going to keep it chained away from you. Or to have a dog you stick in the backyard and let the kids play with, and feed it. Dogs are pack animals, it;s their instinct to be around other member of the pack, whether it be dogs or human.
there is actually a movie showing the day-to-day life of some street dogs in LA, they form packs, they aren't solitary. It also shows how horrible their lives are, watching the mother trying to get all of her puppies safely across a busy road was disturbing..

Is a mile enough for a yorkie??? lol they are so energetic..

lol ive heard yorkies are hyper-mine is about 2 yrs old (according to the vet, we adopted him from a woman who didnt like dogs-and didnt want him. she got tired of taking him outside to pee.. can u believe that?). Teddy is actually pretty laid back and calm. when he walks past other dogs he ignores them-hes great on a leash.

hes tuckered out after a mile-but dont get me wrong, he needs that walk! if he goes two days in a row without one he starts to pace and get restless.

hes the best little dog ive ever had-i cant believe the woman acted like he was such a bad dog..

Because by walking him you're excercising him but you're also making his mind work because he's listening to you/keeping pace/etc. Goes for any dog and is why walking your dog is way better than leaving it in the yard to get excercise.

You probably knew that but wanted to point it out for others. :)

oh i agree cichlaguapote! i think all dogs really do need to be leash walked-or given some type of "work" everyday.. exercise is essential to all dogs no matter what size.

Yes, I can believe that.. there is someone with a beagle down the road. They are getting rid of her because she isn't house trained, and wanders.
Their kids came with me to show my neighbor who was interested in her, they also showed me how 'funny' she acts when she is about to be hit :irked::irked: Shame, this is a beautiful sweet dog.

Yep, my friends get quite mad because I take mine out for 1-2 two hour walks, and I cannot quite explain how it's not for exercise.

Mine is inside unless she "asks" to go outside to relieve herself or play. My neighbors have three dogs that are also inside dogs, but they put them out in a kennel for a couple hours a day and they bark CONSTANTLY. My dog is the size of all three of them put together, but they're daschunds-she's only like 35 lbs.
