that is pretty much the direction that I intended the thread to go. I mean, if you have special sharpshooter skills, or you can shoot an arrow, that's cool, but going, "I have a gun, lolozzzzlolozzzzz" gets old after a while (read, two pages ago). most people know that guns win a fight. But just for kicks, imagine that you don't pack heat everywhere you go.

<can throw knives with the new, non-rotation technique>
dude, share the secret. i keep trying to figure out how to throw a knife without it rotating but it just ends up hitting handle first or flat. i'm decent with a throwing knife up to ~17' though. i did years of informal sparring with my brothers with a staff(informal as in, they where taught by an instructor and i learned from getting my ass handed to me)my punch is decent but i can't kick(too slow) i got some informal training from my oldest brother in kendo and knife fighting a couple years ago, and for a long time i was very good with a bow(don't like compounds) but i haven't picked one up in almost 2yrs so i'm a little rusty(but have a kickass 50lb recurve in the garage that i'd love to shoot) but i still wouldn't want to have to test any of my skills in a real fight, i'd probably lose. i'd love to start some martial arts training though and once i turn 18 i'm going to get a nice low caliber rifle like a .223 and get very accurate(damn squirrels)

this is the guy who claims to have invented it. It looks slightly bogus to me, but I ordered his video. Its not so hard, if you already have some experience. For fear of copyright infringement, I won't say too much, but he includes a sideswing technique that involves a looser wrist. I modified what I learned from the video, so that edge outward on a Gerber foldable pocketknife, I can use a loose triangle grip and really whip my wrist to get it to fly flat. But the video seems to work.

I can stick a ball point pen through a 1/4" piece of plywood at about 15'. a table knife or hemostat at 20', an average penknife at around 25', and a tire iron through a car hood at around 30', no rotation and been doing it for years, won bets that way.
Carried a gun everywhere for years, but it wasn't until I quit doing so that I actually used one in earnest (other than service obligated), it belonged to the ******* who tried to shoot me with it. Not a fun weekend.

two things-if the throwing stuff part is true, I'm very impressed. I would say that improvised weapons is the highest form of knife throwing. And you have some good distance.
second, damn, man. I've threatened people with a gun before (once, in colombia), but I doubt that I would have the balls to just shoot someone. Still, glad it was him and not you.

Guppy, is there anything you aren't good at? Origami? Bowling? Eating contests? Looks like you have killing people and fishkeeping down solid. LOL Glad you lived to tell about the bum that tried to shoot you. Otherwise, someone else would likely have your username, and they would talk about Guppies all day long.

:agree: guppy, I can see that you're reading this at 10:43 Pm on january eighth, so, I'm glad you're alive man

The ballpoint needs to have a metal barrel, mechanical pencils work even better, if it is a cheap plastic one like the non retractable government issue ones they shatter and just leave the nib embedded. None of them ever work again after being stuck. With the items mention above I usually get about i/8" to 1/4" exposed on the far side of the plywood. With the tire iron it is usually about 2-3" through but it would take a few practice throws as it has been several years since I had a car hood I could throw at.
I have never been able to consistently throw even a balanced throwing knife through a proper rotational throw, don't know why.

weird about the knife, but still impressive. Honestly, I try to balance my knives, but I have never bought one of those freakish, useless, made-just-for-throwing knives.
I'm curious as to how you do it?
