I have 1 kid....and personally she's a handful. Wife wanted more but that just wasn't in ours cards. Even getting the money to adopt an extra child.
Hello; yes the expense of rearing a child is big. A joke of mine is to compare having a child with buying a Ferrari. I might be wrong in such a comparison but maybe.

One positive may be that you can do better for your daughter without needing to spread available funds even more thin.

Good luck

. . . . clever twist on my comments. . . .
Thanks. I wanted to express sympathy for your condition without expressing comradeship in it, by tweaking your nose at the same time as I patted you on the back.

I never ever worried about the fact that the world's population was increasing rapidly and I'll tell you why.

I'm a fish breeder and I've watched them die like flies, and human beings aren't a whole lot sturdier! There are things that could wipe out almost our entire population overnight.

I'm never worried about the world being overpopulated, because when I was a kid I lived on an Air Force base with Atomic weapons and B-52's and a blast proof blockhouse where my father worked watching for Russian missiles on the radar.

We all knew we were living on the Ragged Edge and there could be a war of nuclear weapons at any time.

We lived in a bomb shelter under the base bowling alley during the Cuban Missile Crisis, sleeping on army cots with green blankets hung for partitions. Our fathers were all on-duty, waiting for the buttons to get pushed.

That was nearly 60 years ago but It could still happen.

But that's not all . . . there are a bazillion asteroids flying around up there and many are surely at near relativistic speeds! Any day one could destroy 99% of the life on Earth.

But we don't even need to wait for that because there are huge magma Chambers under the crust of the earth just waiting to spew forth in large volcanic eruptions, and those things could be triggered by . . . who knows what? Rogue gravity waves are a real thing buddy. Just like ocean waves they can Blindside you.

We're pretty sure that the legends of Atlantis and Noah's Ark and other such Tales are based on the fact that human beings have been wiped out before and just barely survived.

It would be really stupid not to prepare for this happening again, and one way is to have a large, well mixed population, distributed all over the globe. It wouldn't hurt to have people on the moon and Mars and in space for a bit, but frankly those things are too Fringe right now to be as useful.

Finally I believe that we need to interbreed the races as rapidly as possible to avoid some of the problems of a weak genetic pool. Also to help with the problems of race relations, but genetics is the real concern.

All that being said, I think it's a ridiculous Prospect for people to breed more children than they can support and feed. Unfortunately a lot of people have found themselves in declining circumstances after the fact, and their prospects have diminished frighteningly.

I don't see this is a problem with man's usurpation of the Earth, but rather with man's inhumanity to man.

We have spent way too much time trying to save owls and kangaroo rats and the Vegas Valley flower loving fly. We have spent way too little thought on reparing and preparing Humanity.

Hello; I do not follow the logic of this notion. I get there are many possible ways the world and/or humans can be wiped out. You left out the ultimate one where in a few billion years the sun (Sol) will expand and turn the earth into a cinder. I was around in the 50's and 60's as well and am now old. I was hiding under a school desk as a nuclear war drill and being a civilian in 1963 was outside during the Cuban missle crisis.
I guess by your logic I should not have bothered to brush my teeth or to have done all that exercise because I might get run over by a bus or some other potential tragedy at any time. However since I do not know if nor when some of these unpredictable things may happen I chose to take care of myself.

I guess a difference is the burdens of overpopulation are very much predictable and to some degree a timeline can be at least given a range. I guess we have a different view as to what a big population is. Back a few decades ago when there were 4 o 5 billion people hat seemed plenty big to me. They were also well distributed over the globe back then as well. Seemed there were plenty enough humans around then so there was sufficient odds that pockets of humans might survive.

Finally I believe that we need to interbreed the races as rapidly as possible to avoid some of the problems of a weak genetic pool. Also to help with the problems of race relations, but genetics is the real concern.
Hello; Not sure what you are driving at here. There was a notion years ago with ships and air transport that humans would interbreed and over time become pretty much a uniform species. Best I can figure this notion if it ever happened would be detrimental for species survival. I have thought a diverse gene pool is a better for general species survival myself.

All that being said, I think it's a ridiculous Prospect for people to breed more children than they can support and feed.
Hello; I do appreciate this comment and do completely agree with it. In fact this notion is the basis of my entire point of view. That is what I mean when I use the term carrying capacity. Human population needs to be kept within the capacity of the earth to support and feed it.

May your worldview make you happy.

As for me, I believe that we should not be sucking our head in like a turtle trying not to get hurt. We're trying to grow wings here. Unless you go for it bigtime, life isn't much fun.

Since this is getting tedious I will leave you with that thought.

Well I say it is the rap music industry, and we should keep guns legal but make rap go away.

I am 100% certain that this kind of nonsense drives Fringe elements completely over the edge, and contributes to social lunacy.

Of course back in the day they said that about Mozart.

Hello; Again you confuse me and again you have attempted to turn my comments into something they are not.
First in the order you present happiness is not at issue. My world view came about after several years of undergrad and graduate study in biology, ecology and limnology. I also taught biology and general science for over 33 years. I like to think my worldview is the result of considered evidence and a bit of logic. That there is currently some of the expected events happening does seem at least a small indicator I was not mistaken. I did not come to conclusions decades ago with personal happiness in mind. Let me say again I did often wish my thinking was wrong but alas I still do not think so.

Next I concede you get to see things any way that suits. I do not feel my being childless is quite the same as sucking my head in like a turtle. I lived a full life and do not miss children I did not have. I made what I considered a positive life choice. A choice that had a chance of making the world a more liveable place but unfortunately does not seem to have. At the very least the children I did not have are not now competing for limited resources with actual living children. I also in a selfish way do not have to worry about them.

I have no way of knowing if I had less fun in my life. I had a career and di a lot of fun things. I was involved in the lives of thousands of children. If you have had more fun than I then good for you.
