Your recent luck in Field Herping?

While out fishing yesterday I spotted a nice sized snapping turtle.It looked to have come up from the depths to grab a gulp of oxygen as it just appeared about ten feet out in front of me and then it vanished.
 
Watersnakes? Dang lucky I rarely ever see any I used to see some small skinny snakes that sat there with their head pokin out are they watersnakes? I wanna get bit by one...not really but I do want to catch one

I come across them every now and then at the creek.I caught a nice sizer a few years ago and it gave me a good bite and also pooped all over my arm.
 
i know where a ton of water snakes live. been wanting to go catch some :D

sounds like a watersnake of some kind. they can give a nasty bite, be careful catching them.
 
Yeah I heard :p Also heard they had an Anti-Coagulant? But Im gonna go try and catch one.. I dont think that they could bite theyre tiny

oh yes they can. that's how a lot of people get bitten by coral snakes. "oh, the mouth's so small the only parts of me it could bite would be between my fingers..." *5 minutes later* "oh my god it got me on the leg!"

here's a good example to show that a snake can open it's mouth a lot more than you think

I dont really "herp" I just walk around my yard. There is a gopher tortoise, a few BIG gulf coast box turtles, black racers, anoles, and skinks. At night, at any given moment, I can walk out on my porch and see a dozen Mediterranean geckos (some babies less then an inch long have hached recently), tree frogs and toads.

Oh and just a few blocks from the house I saw probably a 200lb leatherback today. I dont see them too often but I see many green and loggerhead turtles and a few kemp ridleys.
